As a theater enthusiast with a soft spot for exceptional performances and adaptations, I am absolutely ecstatic about Sarah Snook making her Broadway debut in “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. Having witnessed her mesmerizing acting skills in “Succession” and her Olivier Award-winning performance in the West End run, I can only imagine what she’ll bring to this iconic role. Playing 26 characters? That’s a feat I’d love to see!
Sarah Snook will come to Broadway this season in The Picture of Dorian Gray.
In Oscar Wilde’s play adaptation, Snook assumes every one of the 26 roles, using a stage setup featuring cameras and video displays. She is set to make her Broadway debut in this production, having previously shone in the show’s West End run earlier this year and receiving an Olivier Award for Best Actress.
The play will debut at a Shubert theatre in March, though the specific theatre and performance dates are still unspecified.
The play, which centers around a character who trades his soul for eternal youth as a portrait of him grows older, was reworked and helmed by Kip Williams, the artistic leader at Sydney Theatre Company, where it initially premiered.
Snook has garnered fame by portraying Shiv Roy in the series “Succession,” a performance that netted her an Emmy Award, as well as two Golden Globe Awards and a Critics Choice Award.
It was a unique honor to breathe life into ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ in London, and I’m ecstatic that we can now bring this remarkable performance to New York,” Snook stated. “From Oscar Wilde’s enduring phrases to the ingenious reimagining by Kip Williams, this story of morality, decay, vanity, and consequence is a thrilling ride for me as well as for the spectators. I’m brimming with excitement as we proceed with this ambitious artistic undertaking.
The play first appeared on stage worldwide in the year 2020, in Sydney, and subsequently traveled across Australia. Later, it moved to London.
The Broadway show is co-produced by Michael Cassel, Adam Kenwright, Len Blavatnik, Danny Cohen, Daryl Roth, Amanda Lipitz, and Henry Tisch.
