Sarajevo Film Festival Names Ukraine Director Sergei Loznitsa Jury President

Ukrainian filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa, known for “Two Prosecutors,” has been appointed as the head of the jury for the upcoming 31st Sarajevo Film Festival, scheduled for next month.

The winners of the Sarajevo Film Festival will be announced during the awards ceremony on August 22, 2023.

Loznitsa has been named as a juror for a film festival alongside other well-known directors like Mike Leigh, Jasmila Žbanić, Jeremy Irons, and many more. The winners of the festival will be announced in August.

This year, renowned Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino has been bestowed with the prestigious Heart of Sarajevo award (Honorary). The 31st edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival will unfold from August 15th to the 22nd.

The debut screening of Dino Mustafić’s dark Bosnian comedy titled “The Pavilion” will kick off the festival. This screenplay was jointly written by Viktor Ivančić and Emir Imamović Pirke.

Mićanović, renowned for his work in film, theater, and television, will star in this production. Pârvu has a rich history of acting in films, particularly with notable Romanian New Wave directors. His film “Three Kilometers to the End of the World” premiered at Cannes 2024 in competition, won the Queer Palm, and was Romania’s contender for the international feature Oscar. It also received the Heart of Sarajevo Award for best feature film at the previous year’s Sarajevo Film Festival.

Sendijarević, whose debut feature “Take Me Somewhere Nice” won Sarajevo’s Heart of Sarajevo Award for best feature film in 2019, is also involved in this production with her second feature film titled “Sweet Dreams“. This movie was submitted to represent the Netherlands in the international feature Oscar race for 2024.
