As a die-hard SNL fan since its early days, I am beyond excited about the upcoming documentary “Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music”. Growing up, I vividly remember the thrill of staying up late on Saturdays to catch the latest episode, and the musical performances were always the cherry on top. The fact that Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, a legend in his own right, is directing this film makes it even more special.
NBC is set to release a new documentary titled “Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music“, commemorating five decades of live rock music appearances on Saturday Night Live, a renowned comedy series that has been entertaining audiences for half a century.
Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Oz Rodriguez are set to helm the upcoming film showcasing iconic musical performances by artists such as Paul Simon, Justin Timberlake, Billie Eilish & Finneas, Bad Bunny, Elvis Costello, Miley Cyrus, Debbie Harry & Chris Stein, Jack White, Mick Jagger and Dua Lipa, plus several other noteworthy acts.
Everyone is aware of the most well-known SNL performances, be it Elvis Costello, Prince, or the Beastie Boys, but these are just the tip of a massive iceberg,” Thompson stated. “Sifting through the vast amount of amazing archival footage was like stepping into a time machine – DeLorean or otherwise. I’m thrilled that I embarked on this journey and can now share it with everyone.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to be part of NBC’s grand prime-time event honoring Saturday Night Live’s golden jubilee, which began in 1974. On January 27th, they’ll premiere the music-oriented documentary, and a day later, it will stream on Peacock. This three-hour special is packed with approximately 50 interviews featuring musical artists, cast members, and writers, produced by Two One Five Entertainment, RadicalMedia, and Broadway Video.
Prior to the 50th anniversary of SNL, streaming platform Peacock will also premiere SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, a four-part documentary exploring the backstage life of NBC’s popular sketch comedy series, starting on January 16th.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we present to you “50 Years of SNL Music” – a production masterfully overseen by Lorne Michaels, Thompson, Zarah Zohlman, Erin David, Dave Sirulnick, Jon Kamen, Meredith Bennett, Alexander H. Browne, Shawn Gee, and Tariq Trotter. Rodriguez takes on the role of producer in this project.
The grand finale of SNL‘s 50th anniversary celebrations is scheduled for February 16, airing live during prime time on both NBC and Peacock.
