Satya Re-Release: Manoj Bajpayee admits he was treated differently after doing cult gangster saga; ‘I realised that…’

Manoj Bajpayee experienced a major career leap when he played Bhiku Mhatre, a powerful underworld leader in Ram Gopal Varma’s acclaimed film Satya. This role earned him broad acclaim and solidified his status as a highly skilled and promising actor within the Indian film industry. In a recent conversation, he shared that he understood that divine forces had unique plans for him, and also expressed feeling treated differently following Satya.

In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Manoj Bajpayee looked back at the influence of the movie “Satya” as it prepares for another run in cinemas starting January 17, 2025.

Bajpayee expressed his excitement that a whole new generation, who’ve only heard about the movie’s enduring impact, can now witness its enchantment on the big screen. He was thrilled that they would finally grasp why Satya continues to be regarded as a timeless classic and an indelible cinematic achievement.

Apart from what was already known, Bajpayee shared some unheard-of aspects of his process in portraying Bhiku Mhatre. He personally procured his costumes, fine-tuned his accent through watching his cook, and invested a solid two months meticulously crafting the character before filming even started.

Looking back on his acting career before the movie, the 55-year-old actor openly acknowledged that he had humble aspirations for himself. However, he soon discovered that the film Satya would significantly alter his life trajectory. He fondly reminisces about the transformation in how the industry viewed him following the release of the film and cherishes the excitement it generated.

Ever since my breakout role in Satya, I’ve found myself constantly measured against that film. It’s a fact I can’t deny, as many viewers now link my unique talent to projects such as Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), The Family Man, Shool (1999), and Raajneeti (2010).

Delighted by the chance to explore, he underscored how Satya didn’t just change his life, but also motivated a multitude of individuals to break free from their comfort zones and chase their aspirations.

On the work front, Bajpayee will be next seen in The Family Man season 3.
