Sausage Party: Foodtopia Cast & Character Guide

As a huge fan of animated series and voice acting, I’m absolutely thrilled about the latest addition to the scene: Sausage Party: Foodtopia! This show is not only visually stunning but also boasts an impressive ensemble of talented actors lending their voices to some truly unique characters.

In their creative minds, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Conrad Vernon bring us “Sausage Party: Foodtopia,” a witty comedy series that serves as both a follow-up and spin-off of the 2016 adult-animated film, “Sausage Party.” The story revolves around an adventurous group of supermarket items, who dream of constructing their own flourishing community, named Foodtopia. Beyond Shopwells’ shelves, they embark on a journey to establish this paradise. All episodes are now available on Prime Video, continuing from the movie’s conclusion. With Frank, a heroic sausage at the helm, they set out to leave the human rule, or ‘humeys,’ behind and build their idyllic society.

Despite constructing a community of their own, the food folk were harshly reminded of their vulnerability when a thunderstorm ruined their progress and claimed several lives among them. Consequently, they acknowledged the necessity of collaborating with at least one human being to ensure their survival. Having taken refuge in an abandoned strip mall’s stores, the community pressed on with building their new society. The sequel, Sausage Party: Foodtopia, continues to be as crude and humorous as its precursor. Filled with a motley crew of eccentric and profanely-speaking characters, it’s worth dissecting the key food items that fuel the narrative and the voice actors behind them.

Seth Rogen as Frank

Seth Rogen’s character, Frank, serves as the crucial ingredient in the show, uncovering the true stories behind food products once they leave the supermarket. Now spearheading the vision and initiatives of Foodtopia, Frank demonstrates a remarkable sense of calmness among the chaos and strives to make ethical decisions for the betterment of this food paradise.

Seth Rogen first appeared on screen in 1999 through NBC’s “Freaks and Geeks” television series. He also co-created and produces Netflix’s “Sausage Party: Foodtopia.” In 2023, he lent his voice to the animated children’s film “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” portraying Donkey Kong. Presently, Rogen is involved as an executive producer for Amazon Prime Video’s original production, “The Boys.”

Kristen Wiig as Brenda Bunson

As a devoted fan, I’d describe it this way: I adore how Kristen Wiig brings Brenda to life – Frank’s alluring and supportive bun companion. She’s right there with him, at the heart of their shared Foodtopian adventure. Together, they strive for the best, keeping each other grounded and recognizing the significance of having a human ally. Only we, Frank and Brenda, understand the vastness of this culinary universe, and it’s up to us to share its wisdom with those yet to explore it.

Kristen Wiig, who has honed her unique humor as a former cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” wrote and acted alongside Annie Mumolo in the hit comedy “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar” (2021). Currently, she brings Maxine to life on Apple TV+’s “Palm Royale,” which was recently granted a second season.

Michael Cera as Barry

As a gamer, I’d describe Barry in my own words: I have this quirky friend, voiced by Michael Cera, who looks like a deformed sausage yet holds a special place in Frank’s circle. His determination to wipe out any remaining humeys is relentless. He’s got an insatiable craving for thrills and isn’t afraid to take risks, putting himself on the line to protect other food when they’re in peril. Despite his small size, Barry has a heart and spirit that surpasses most others in our community.

Michael Cera has become famous for his distinctive, uncomfortable yet charming acting. He has collaborated with Seth Rogen in several comedic movies such as “Superbad,” “This Is The End,” and “Sausage Party.” Michael’s most recognized role is that of Evan in “Superbad.” His recent appearance as Allan in the 2023 blockbuster hit “Barbie” might even surpass this notoriety.

Edward Norton as Sammy Bagel Jr.

Edward Norton lends his voice to the character of Sammy, who serves as the host for the show and is known for his neurotic demeanor and Jewish heritage. Haunted by the recollections of his late friend Kareem, a Middle Eastern man portrayed as a lavash bread, Sammy tries to find solace in the past while striving to move forward. To ease his own suffering, he endeavors to entertain his companions through stand-up comedy performances.

Edward Norton has been recognized with three Academy Award nominations for his acting in the films “Primal Fear,” “Birdman,” and “American History X.” He is renowned for bringing complex characters to life on screen. In recent projects, he portrays Conrad in Wes Anderson’s 2023 film, “Asteroid City,” and Miles in Rian Johnson’s follow-up to “Knives Out,” titled “Glass Onion.”

Sam Richardson as Julius

In a bold and self-important manner, an orange named Julius is brought to life by Sam Richardson’s voice. He amasses the teeth of deceased humeys as a means to assert dominance in Foodtopia. With each passing day, Julius extends his influence over the strip mall’s establishments, ruling with an arrogant and unfriendly demeanor. Essentially, Julius is a gangster-like figure within this community.

I’m a huge fan of Sam Richardson and his ability to make us laugh both on screen and through his writing! In 2017, he teamed up with Tim Robinson to co-create and star in Comedy Central’s “Detroiters.” This collaboration led to some hilarious moments. Then, I was blown away when Sam landed the role of Edwin Akufo in Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso,” which brought him an Emmy award. Most recently, he joined the cast of “Hocus Pocus 2” as Gilbert, the proprietor of Olde Salem Magic Shoppe. Each performance from Sam leaves me in awe and eager for more!

Will Forte as Jack

Amongst the vast array of food, Jack is the solitary human character, voiced by Will Forte. Jack doesn’t boast an impressive intellect, in fact, he can be considered quite simple-minded. Despite his limited understanding of the world, Jack proves invaluable to the food community. After being captured by Frank and company, Jack finds himself bound with no means of escape. Fortunately, the knowledge he possesses could shield him from the anger of Barry and the rest.

Will Forte is a Saturday Night Live alum whose recurring character, MacGruber, was eventually adapted into a feature film in 2010 and a limited series in 2021. In 2015, he created and starred in Fox’s sitcom The Last Man on Earth, where he earned multiple Primetime Emmy Award nominations for his acting and writing. He recently starred in the Netflix series Bodkin as Gilbert and appeared in Part Two of That 90s Show as Kiefer.

Every episode of Sausage Party: Foodtopia is currently streaming on Prime Video.
