As a long-time fan of the Chrisley family and their reality series, I’ve been following their journey with bated breath since the bank fraud conviction two and a half years ago. The latest development involving the closure of FPC Pensacola where Todd is currently housed has stirred up a whirlwind of emotions for me, and Savannah Chrisley, in particular.
Over the past two and a half years, the Chrisley family’s claim to fame shifted from their hit reality show “Chrisley Knows Best” on USA, to legal issues surrounding stars Todd and Julie after their bank fraud conviction. Regular updates on their court cases and prison life have been widespread, largely due to their eldest daughter Savannah. Recently, there’s been a new twist as the Florida prison where Todd has been incarcerated is closing, with Savannah expressing her mixed emotions about it.
Savannah Chrisley took to her Instagram account and used her Stories to open up about FPC Pensacola closing. As well as establishing that she believes President-elect Trump taking office in January will have a positive effect on her parents’ incarceration, she shared:
All right, guys, you know that I have over the past two years exposed so much corruption at FPC Pensacola and, frankly, within the whole Bureau of Prisons. The Bureau of Prisons has come out, called me a liar, but I’ve got all the documentation to prove what I have to say. And today – well, I’ve known of this – but today it was just announced that FPC Pensacola will be closing down. That is where my dad is being housed, and it will be closing down within the next six to nine months, from what I’m being told. I have mixed feelings about this, because they’re closing it down, and that’s their way of not taking accountability. That’s their way of not holding these abusers accountable.
Savannah Chrisley didn’t elaborate on the specifics of her accusations about being labeled a liar or the type of evidence she possesses to support her claims, but she has been outspoken about the prison system for quite some time now, following her parents’ convictions. In fact, Savannah asserted last year that her parents have faced reprisals in prison due to her public statements, with Todd allegedly being denied non-recorded phone calls with his attorney and Julie reportedly enduring poor living conditions.
It’s likely not unexpected that Savannah Chrisley singled out Colette Peters, the head of the Bureau of Prisons, in particular. Her statement reads:
It seems it’s high time for Colette Peters to step down, as her leadership has only encouraged an environment of misconduct. Regrettably, her actions in this position are limited solely to this. As a fellow woman, I feel embarrassed by her authority. However, the future will reveal what happens next. I am fortunate to be collaborating with several senators who are eager to examine and consider the evidence I’ve gathered, for which I am deeply appreciative.
Again, Savannah Chrisley didn’t name names when she cited “a few senators” she’s working with or detail “all the evidence” she allegedly has, but she didn’t mince words about Colette Peters. Additionally, back in November, she posted about a letter “filled with nothing but facts-exposing the corruption within the Bureau of Prisons.” The location tagged in the Instagram post was Mar-a-Lago, the resort owned by Donald Trump.
In her recent comments about FPC Pensacola being shut down, Savannah went on:
Even though they’re shutting down, I ensure they will face consequences for their actions. At the moment, I’m unsure where Dad might end up. Here’s to hoping and praying he returns home safely.
According to an Associated Press report, FPC Pensacola prison, along with other facilities, is set to close due to extensive damage. Once approximately 500 inmates and 100 staff members are moved to new locations, the damaged structure will be torn down. It remains uncertain at this time whether Todd Chrisley’s sentence will change as a result of the closure and relocation.
Initially, Todd Chrisley faced a prison term of twelve years, and his wife Julie got a seven-year sentence in 2022. However, their sentences were modified less than a year later: Todd’s term was reduced by about two years, while Julie’s was shortened by 14 months. In September, there was a hearing to reconsider Julie’s sentence, which led to the restoration of her original total length. This update occurred just a few months after Savannah Chrisley expressed her hope for her mother to be home by Thanksgiving.
Regarding Savannah’s feelings about her father, she expressed her thoughts on how Todd is spending his anniversary apart from Julie in different prisons and the fact that he will miss another Father’s Day behind bars. For the moment, those following the Chrisley storyline can only anticipate what transpires next. It appears likely that Savannah will continue sharing updates about her parents’ situation on social media. If a new Chrisley reality show materializes in the near future, it could serve as a source of updates. To rewatch the original Chrisley Knows Best, you can now stream it with a Peacock subscription.
