As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for the nuances of the entertainment industry, I wholeheartedly support Sayani Gupta‘s call for intimacy coordinators on set. Her courage to share her personal experiences and advocate for boundaries is commendable.
Sayani Gupta, a versatile actress in Bollywood, has courageously tackled challenging and varied roles. Lately, she expressed her thoughts on the significance of intimacy coordinators during filming. To underscore her argument, she recounted some awkward encounters in her acting journey where a co-star prolonged kissing scenes, exceeding her personal limits.
In a chat with Radio Nasha, Sayani Gupta discussed her upcoming film Khwabon Ka Jhamela. She voiced her appreciation for the growing trend in Bollywood of employing intimacy coordinators, similar to the West, as she believes it provides a means to preserve professional boundaries during filming.
Explaining the need for intimacy coordinators, Gupta cited some troubling moments from her experience where a co-actor lingered a kiss in an ‘inappropriate behavior’ despite the scene being ‘cut’ by the director.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve got to share an interesting observation from my experiences. Although I won’t mention names, let me tell you about some instances where actors have taken advantage during filming. There have been times when an actor would extend a kiss scene beyond the cut, and it leaves you in this awkward situation, thinking something like ‘uhhh.’ Sometimes, these actions are subtle, but they’re definitely inappropriate behavior.
In the course of filming her 2013 movie “Margarita with a Straw,” the actress who goes by Call Me Bae disclosed she collaborated with an intimacy coordinator for the first time. She expressed that working on intimate scenes under their supervision made the process ‘more straightforward.’
In a recent post, the actress who played Jagga Jasoos shared an episode from her career that made her feel uneasy. Recalling her time working on the first season of Four More Shots Please, Sayani Gupta expressed discomfort when she was required to lie down on a beach covered in sand while wearing a short dress, with around 70 people – including the film’s team – looking on.
Despite her longing for someone nearby, wrapped in a shawl, to assist her as soon as the camera stopped rolling, there simply wasn’t anyone or anything like that. She explained, “With 800 extras present that day, I found myself yearning for just one person to be there with a shawl. Unfortunately, due to the hectic pace of our filming, safety considerations often became secondary.
If you’re unfamiliar, Sayani Gupta made her film debut in Second Marriage Dot Com back in 2012. Her notable movies include Margarita with a Straw, Baar Baar Dekho, Jolly LLB 2, Article 15, and Zwigato, to name a few.
