Scarlett Johansson Is Very Choosy When It Comes To Traveling With Her Kids While Working, And Her Logic With Jurassic World Makes Perfect Sense

From an early age of nine, Scarlett Johansson has been a working professional, spending her formative years on film sets. Despite this long career, Johansson remains married to Colin Jost from Saturday Night Live and is a dedicated mother to their two children. Regarding her travel plans with her kids while working on set, Johansson has stated that she is quite selective about such matters, and her reasoning for the upcoming Jurassic World: Rebirth (which is slated for release in 2025) seems sound.

From time to time, it’s not uncommon for celebrities to involve their little ones in their work life. It can either be a heartwarming moment, as when Kaley Cuoco brought her one-year-old along to the set of “Based on a True Story,” or a potentially traumatic experience, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger bringing then one-year-old Katherine to the set of “Terminator” with half his face melted off. Now, when it comes to Scarlett Johansson, there’s speculation about whether she ever uses her work on location as a chance for family vacations. The “Jojo Rabbit” star shared her candid thoughts on this topic with E! News:

Occasionally I may comply, but given the current situation, it seems more considerate not to do it since everyone else might be busy with their routines, and I’m constantly working. Thus, for a task so brief, I prefer to decline.

Scarlett Johansson is referring to a swift film project, which happens to be Wes Anderson’s upcoming movie titled The Phoenician Scheme, where she portrays Cousin Hilda. Filming for this production took place between March and June of 2024 in Germany. Given the brief duration of this project, it seems plausible that Johansson decided not to bring her children along, as a short trip would be more suitable for everyone involved. With all the effort Johansson is expected to invest into the espionage black comedy, I can easily visualize her adorable kids becoming quite the distraction during filming.

Since Scarlett Johansson’s children couldn’t make it to “The Phoenician Scheme”, her son, Cosmo (with Colin Jost), was invited instead to the set of another Wes Anderson movie. As reported by People, during filming for “Asteroid City,” where Johansson starred as a baby, Cosmo had a chance to explore the set! Johansson humorously commented that her son gained more popularity than she did while they were working together in Spain.

Filming “The Phoenician Scheme” in the spring might have been a fast-paced production that wasn’t suitable for a fun family trip. Conversely, Scarlett Johansson shared her reasons for taking her children to the set of “Jurassic World: Rebirth” during its filming in Thailand, Malta, and the UK last summer, and I can certainly understand her decision: it seems she wanted them to experience the excitement and adventure that comes with being on a blockbuster movie set.

During our filming for Jurassic World, it happened during summer. This allowed me to take my family to many enjoyable places. However, this project seems incredibly work-oriented, and Wes has designed a setting that feels like a theatrical troupe. As a result, everyone is deeply immersed and concentrated. Since children can be quite distracting, I find it beneficial not to have them around during work hours.

Given the numerous thrilling settings featured in “Jurassic World,” it’s no wonder that this movie could make for an unforgettable family vacation during summer break, offering a fun-filled alternative to your wife’s frequent work commitments on the Wes Anderson project. As for the adventures enjoyed by the whole family when Scarlett Johansson wasn’t treading with dinosaurs, I’m intrigued to discover what those activities were!

Scarlett Johansson’s preference for selecting films that align with her young children’s schedules is quite sensible. Instead of exposing them to a brief film production schedule such as “The Phoenician Scheme”, a lengthier summer schedule like that of “Jurassic World” allows for an effective blend of work and quality family time. “The Phoenician Scheme” is currently showing in theaters, while “Jurassic World: Rebirth” will hit theaters on July 2nd.
