Scarlett Johansson’s Favorite Video Game and Character Surprised Me

In an earlier interview, Scarlett Johansson disclosed her preferred video game. Although her selection was impressive, her subsequent statement about her favorite character and the reason behind it left me somewhat taken aback. Admittedly, I’m not out to argue with Black Widow, but as a die-hard fan, I find myself compelled to defend the character I believe she overlooked in her response.

Scarlett Johansson might not be a hardcore gamer, but she does have some gaming background. I once came across a photo of her playing Tetris with Chris Evans on an old Game Boy using a Link Cable. Moreover, she has lent her voice to games like The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie from 2004 and LEGO Marvel’s Avengers in 2016. Based on these instances, it’s fair to say that Johansson may have a preference for a particular game, and given its popularity among Nintendo users, especially those who grew up with the console, it’s not hard to guess what her favorite might be.

Scarlett Johansson’s Favorite Video Game Is Mario Kart

Johansson Mentioned Her Favorite Game In An IGN Interview

Back in 2016, Scarlett Johansson shared with IGN that her preferred video game was Mario Kart. She didn’t specify the particular version, making it unclear which one she was referring to. Given her age, she might have been a child when Super Mario Kart was initially released, but it’s unknown if she played it as a kid or discovered it later in life. Nevertheless, regardless of the specific Mario Kart game, I can confidently assert that her choice of favorite game was an excellent one.

Mario Kart evokes the very reasons I grew fond of video games initially. It offers an engaging blend of social and competitive elements, ensuring every player remains engaged due to its well-designed item system which keeps races balanced, making it seem possible for even those trailing behind to catch up. Moreover, its primary objective is to provide enjoyment, offering a refreshing change from intricate RPGs that demand significant time investments. Despite the appeal of lengthy RPGs, it’s delightful to occasionally play a game that solely concentrates on delivering an enjoyable, streamlined gaming experience.

Toad Is Her Favorite Mario Kart Character

Johansson Said She Picks Toad Because He’s Cute

It doesn’t bother me when people claim that Mario Kart is their top game choice, but I found it surprising when Scarlett Johansson revealed her favorite character as Toad. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike Toad; it’s just that he doesn’t really stand out to me. He’s usually just present in the game without making much impact. Granted, she did provide a reasonable explanation for choosing Toad, but personally, he’s not someone who catches my attention.

Johansson often chooses Toad in Mario Kart due to his adorable appearance, a fact that rings true. His endearing smile and the resemblance of his all-black eyes to a plush toy are charming, while his raspy little voice reminds one of Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony after taking up smoking. However, when it comes to selecting characters in Mario Kart based on cuteness, I believe there is a more obvious superior choice than Toad.

There’s Nothing Wrong With Toad, But Yoshi Is Clearly The Best

Toad Isn’t Nearly As Cute As Yoshi

When it comes to charm, Toad might seem appealing, but for me, Yoshi takes the cake. I believe that Yoshi’s less human-like appearance adds to his adorable factor. While Toad’s voice can be endearing, Yoshi’s is even more so and he produces delightful sounds. Additionally, I might be a bit partial towards Yoshi due to my fondness for the color green.

To put it simply, I’d say: When it comes to favorite Mario Kart characters, Toad isn’t really high on my list. It’s not that there’s anything wrong with him, but I tend to prefer Luigi and Dry Bones more. As a kid, I’ve always felt a connection with Luigi, and in terms of cuteness, I think Dry Bones beats Toad (though he may not always be an option). At least, if I ever play Mario Kart with Scarlett Johansson, I won’t have to worry about her choosing a character I want to use.
