As a seasoned gamer who’s been to more art shows than I have levels in my favorite games, let me tell you that the SCOPE Art Show in Miami Beach is like hitting the ultimate secret boss in the world of contemporary art! With its 23rd edition, this show continues to push boundaries and surprise us with its dynamic fusion of art, culture, technology, and wellness.
The SCOPE Art Show is making a comeback in Miami Beach for its 23rd version from December 3-8, 2024. This event will feature more than 85 exhibitors from 15 different countries. Renowned for blending art, culture, technology, and wellness, the 2024 edition’s theme, Interdependence, emphasizes the cooperative essence of creativity. Attendees can look forward to a rich mix of encounters, ranging from massive installations to insightful discussions and unique events.
As a passionate admirer, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be experiencing the extraordinary “New Contemporary,” SCOPE’s iconic stage for monumental pieces, which will unveil fresh creations by Yinka Ilori MBE and Lua Brice. Yinka’s “Lift Me Higher With Joy” encourages community engagement with interactive seating platforms, while Lua Brice’s “Folding Light” promises an immersive experience through sound and light. On the exhibition floor, Dr. Esther Mahlangu’s awe-inspiring 26-foot painting, “Ukuthula Makube Nawe (Peace Be With You),” carries a timeless message of peace, and Hebru Brantley’s “Black Oddyssey” pays tribute to African American culture with captivating carnival-inspired elements. Can’t wait to immerse myself in this vibrant artistic journey!
At SCOPE, Hypeart will be introduced for the first time. The display will delve into the revolutionary impact of spray paint in modern art, as artists innovatively surpass conventional street art and create vibrant, boundary-defying pieces. The exhibit will showcase unique works by KATSU, Stickymonger, and UFO907, which will be prominently displayed in the central lounge’s booth.
This year’s fair introduces a fresh element called “The Blue Floor Project,” which collaborates with Nassau’s FUZE Art Fair and showcases Caribbean artists. This specially-selected area displays captivating pieces from artists like Deborah Jack, Marlon Griffith, and others, all providing distinct insights into Caribbean culture, identity, and history. The Blue Floor Project acts as a significant stage for the region’s contemporary artists, allowing us to appreciate the richness and vitality of Caribbean art. Furthermore, this section debuts the SCOPE Art Show x The Current: Baha Mar Art Prize, an innovative program aimed at nurturing budding talent from the Caribbean. The first recipient of this prize is artist Wesley Clark, currently in residence at Baha Mar, where his work will continue to develop and mature.
2019’s program showcases a variety of discussions that delve into significant topics influencing modern art. These conversations will investigate the impact of artificial intelligence on art creation, examining how new technologies are reshaping creative methods and redefining authorship. Another topic under discussion will be the development of Latinx art, emphasizing its considerable influence on the cultural and artistic scene, while delving into the multifaceted voices and practices within the Latinx community. Lastly, a session will address the struggle to maintain artistic authenticity in the digital era, considering issues surrounding the commercialization of art in the social media-dominated age and mass digital consumption.
As a passionate admirer, let me share some exciting news: Besides the intellectually stimulating exhibits, music and wellness are set to steal the show at this event! Renowned artists like Black Coffee and Disclosure will be gracing our stages, delivering their unique beats to the Miami Beach audience. But that’s not all – wellness is also high on the agenda, with daily yoga, meditation, and breathwork sessions led by Alo, our dedicated wellness partner. These tranquil moments will provide a perfect balance of relaxation and mindfulness amidst the pulsating energy of the fair, enabling attendees to rejuvenate while immersing themselves in the creative vibe that surrounds us all.
Visitors can savor pop-ups by Panther Coffee, Bondi Sushi, and Bodega Taqueria, enhancing the overall immersive event.
