The mysterious duo composed of Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill is working on an adaption of the chilling horror novel “Road of Bones,” penned by renowned author Christopher Golden, for Sony Picture’s Screen Gems imprint.
This dynamic pair, famed for their chilling horror scenes in films like Sinister, Doctor Strange, and The Black Phone, are set to pen the script. Director Scott Derrickson will helm the project, while they’ll also produce through their Crooked Highway production label.
The project represents the first stage, arising from Crooked Highway’s first-look deal with Screen Gems/Sony.)
The chilling supernatural thriller, “Bones,” unfolds against the haunting backdrop of the Kolyma Highway in Siberia, a genuine road constructed during the Stalinist era with forced labor from the region’s gulags. Legend speaks of over half a million prisoners who lost their lives during its construction, and due to the permafrost, it was decided that it would be less arduous to build directly on top of the deceased.
Golden’s book is categorized as a blend of folk and survival horror. It follows the story of an American documentarian who, drawn by the history of a road, finds himself battling for his life in one of the coldest and most isolated regions on Earth. St. Martin’s Press released this novel in 2022. (134 characters)
Golden, Vince Cheng and Pete Donaldson will serve as executive producers on the project.
The New York Times best-selling author, renowned for his golden accolades, is the one who clinched Brad Stoker Awards in 2017 for his novel ‘Ararat’ and non-fiction work ‘Cut! Horror Writers on Horror Film’. In the realm of comics, he collaborates with Mike Mignola, the creator of Hellboy, and jointly created ‘Baltimore’, among other titles that belong to the shared Outerverse comic book universe.
Derrickson and Cargill are following their successful February release of “The Gorge” on Apple TV+, a film they produced and directed by Derrickson. This action-horror production, featuring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, has set a new record as the biggest premiere in Apple TV+’s history. Next, the pair is working on “The Black Phone 2”, scheduled for release on October 17 through Universal and Blumhouse.
Crooked Highway is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
