Scott Eastwood Explains Why He Turned Down a Lead Role in ‘Chicago P.D.’

A man who possesses his famed father’s knack for discerning his career aspirations within Hollywood, he now appears intent on acting in a panned action film alongside Sylvester Stallone. However, there was a time when he declined the opportunity to spearhead one of the most popular television shows currently airing on network channels.

In a preliminary episode for the One Chicago series, Eastwood made an appearance, portraying a guest character in the Chicago Fire installment. Later, he reprised his role as Officer Jim Barnes in the inaugural episode of Chicago P.D., but this was his only appearance within the series, despite initial indications that it could lead to a lasting and stable role given the unpredictable nature of TV show cancellations and changes. However, Eastwood himself revealed in an interview with CBR that he chose to relinquish that potentially lucrative position for personal reasons, stating:

Initially, I was given the chance to play a major role in a production set in Chicago. At that moment, my response was something along the lines of, “I can’t accept this offer. I’m not prepared to relocate to Chicago. Committing to something for six and a half years seems excessive to me. I don’t even know what I’ll be doing six months from now, so thinking about six and a half years is overwhelming. So, I declined their offer, and they were surprised, saying I was crazy. But they were working with Dick Wolf, and I respect that, but it wasn’t aligned with my personal plans and aspirations.

Scott Eastwood Is Doing Exactly What His Famous Dad Did Before Him

In the bustling world of Hollywood, Scott Eastwood has managed to carve out a distinct identity for himself amidst the long-standing Eastwood legacy that’s deeply rooted in the film industry for over seven decades. His father, Clint, is renowned as one of the most admired actors and directors in the business, an esteem he’s held for more years than many moviegoers have been alive. However, Scott initially chose to act under the surname Reeves before he felt he had garnered enough recognition based on his individual merits, at which point he reverted back to the Eastwood name.

It appears he prefers blazing his unique trail, since he mentioned that eschewing a television career path, specifically declining a role on Chicago PD, was an instinctive choice. In his own words:

In essence, trusting your instincts is crucial, just as it is in any profession. Your intuition rarely misleads you. Whenever I’ve ignored my intuition, I’ve later regretted it. For instance, if I accept a film role that I don’t believe is as strong or doesn’t live up to my expectations… Simply listen to your gut. I believe this advice applies to all aspects of life.

I’m currently starring in the action-packed thriller “Alarum,” a role that, to be honest, has tested my instincts somewhat, but I’ve got an exciting lineup of films ahead. Among them are the action-packed thrillers “Tin Soldier” alongside Jamie Foxx and Robert DeNiro, and “Stolen Girl” with Kate Beckinsale.
