Scott Weighs in on Dad Clint Eastwood's Filmmaking Future

As a seasoned cinephile who’s had the privilege of witnessing the evolution of Hollywood, I must say that the upcoming release of “1992” and Clint Eastwood’s “Juror No. 2” has me on the edge of my seat. The intergenerational connection between Scott Eastwood and Ray Liotta in “1992” is nothing short of captivating, reminding us that the magic of cinema transcends time.

Prior to the premiere of “1992”, we had a conversation with actor Scott Eastwood. This is his latest thrilling heist movie, which unfolds against the backdrop of a significant period in Los Angeles during the Rodney King riots. In the film, Scott portrays an ambitious character whose father is played by the late Ray Liotta, one of the greatest actors of our time, in one of his final performances. It’s quite moving to watch their on-screen interactions and confrontations. Interestingly, Scott’s real-life father, the esteemed Clint Eastwood, has been occupied with a highly anticipated drama titled “Juror No. 2”. This project also features Clint’s daughter Francesca Eastwood and several other notable actors.

At the age of 94, people are questioning if the world of cinema has seen Clint’s final film or if he will continue to work. However, as his son stated to MovieWeb, “One can never rule out my father when it comes to making another movie,” suggesting that he has been in the business for a while and may not stop now.

Spending the summer working alongside Ray Liotta (as your on-screen father in the movie) was a definite advantage, as Scott shared: “Spending time with Ray [in 1992] was truly wonderful, and I will never forget it. Learning about the creation of Goodfellas and collaborating with Martin Scorsese was an enriching experience, providing insights into his film career and history. To put it simply, I will always treasure the summer I got to work with Ray.”

Eastwood’s 20-Year Friendship With Tyrese Gibson

In addition to Scott’s new movie being enhanced by a reunion from the Fast & Furious franchise, Tyrese Gibson shines brilliantly in the role of a hard-pressed father navigating the Watts riots and safeguarding his son in 1992. As Scott put it, “Tyrese and I have a long history together; we’ve collaborated a few times and our friendship dates back nearly 20 years. Working with Tyrese is effortless; we simply go at it, have fun, and get the job done.” Moreover, Scott shared his personal ties to the actual events portrayed in 1992:

“I had heard of it and lived through it, as I recall my parents being captivated by it on TV. There were many conversations about it back then. However, being young at the time, I didn’t fully grasp its significance. But now, revisiting it as an adult and learning more, I find it intriguing. The concept of using this pivotal historical event as a backdrop for a gripping heist movie strikes me as innovative and fresh.”

Besides confirming his interest, Scott mentioned that these heist films provide a sort of entertaining fantasy. He said, “There’s an element of wish-fulfillment.” He continued, “You can’t help but be drawn to these heists; they offer an escape, a thrill. You might even find yourself rooting for the ‘bad guys,’ wondering if they’ll pull off their plan, and watching the internal struggle that comes with it. That’s why I always enjoy movies like these.”

From Lionsgate, 1992 will be released in theaters on Aug. 30, 2024.
