As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of film-watching under my belt, I must say that the latest addition to the cast of “Scream 7” piques my interest. Celeste O’Connor, who has graced our screens in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” and even Marvel’s “Madame Web,” is joining the iconic franchise.
The lineup for Scream 7 keeps expanding, as confirmed by Deadline. It’s been revealed that Celeste O’Connor, who was recently seen in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, has secured a role in the movie, although the specifics of her part are yet to be disclosed. She will join Neve Campbell, who is set to reprise her character Sidney Prescott, and Isabel May, who takes on the role of Sidney’s daughter. At present, details about O’Connor’s participation in the film remain scarce, so fans will simply have to stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
Apart from “Frozen Empire”, the talented star, O’Connor, can also be seen in its prequel, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife”, as well as in “Madame Web” and “Freaky”. At present, this rising star is involved in the production of a science fiction movie titled “UAP“, which revolves around a group of friends who stumble upon an unusual, unexplained occurrence (often referred to as a UFO) hidden behind their lakeside home. This film will serve as Mason Howard’s first directorial venture in a feature-length production.
Originally written: Kevin Williamson, the author of the “Scream” series, is once again involved, this time as director. There are rumors that Patrick Dempsey, who portrayed Detective Mark Kincaid in “Scream 3”, and whose character is now married to Sidney, might be part of the film. However, it’s uncertain whether Courtney Cox, who has played Gale Weathers in every “Scream” movie so far, will reappear in the upcoming seventh installment.
In simpler terms, Gary Busick penned the script for the movie, while James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein from Project X Entertainment are set to produce it. The distribution of Scream 7 will be handled by Paramount Pictures.
Celeste O’Connor is Latest to Join ‘Scream 7’s Rocky Development
The production of Scream 7 has faced some challenges thus far. Originally, it was intended to center around a new set of characters – primarily sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter (portrayed by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega in the latest film) – who were introduced in Scream (2022) and were also featured in Scream VI. However, Campbell, who had a more supporting role in the 2022 version, decided not to rejoin for the sixth installment due to disagreements over pay with the producers.
In November 2023, Barrera was let go from the production due to controversial social media posts about Palestine that some considered antisemitic. This led Ortega to leave the project, putting the movie “Scream 7” in a difficult position. It wasn’t until the news broke about Campbell returning to the series and Williamson assuming directorial responsibilities that the film started moving forward again. However, it remains to be seen if audiences will accept the new direction the franchise is taking.
The storyline is still unclear at present, but as per Campbell’s statement, Sidney will be the central figure once more. What remains to be seen is who will emerge as the fresh Ghostface duo (assuming there are two killers, a rarity except in Scream 3). The intrigue lies in understanding their motivation for focusing on this franchise’s iconic protagonist this time, rather than other potential targets.
The seventh installment of “Scream” is scheduled to premiere in cinemas on February 27, 2026, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the original movie.
