SDCC 2025: Twisted Metal Stars Promise Season 2 Will Scratch That “Car Combat” Itch (EXCLUSIVE)

If you’re experiencing a fever and the only remedy seems to be causing massive car damage, Peacock has some exciting news for you!

We’re almost there! It’s just a few days until the highly anticipated comeback of Twisted Metal. In this second season, the enigmatic Calypso (portrayed by Anthony Carrigan, known for his roles in “Barry” and “Superman”) will bring the intense, road-bound competition to life.

At San Diego Comic-Con this year, SYFY WIRE provided an exciting experience with a bumper car area open to everyone. During the event, Carrigan shared that he used to play Twisted Metal 2 following his school classes in middle school. His preferred character from the game was always Auger, the one equipped with a drill.

Calypso vows to fulfill the deepest wish of anyone who escapes the chaos unscathed, yet achieving this is more difficult than it sounds, especially when you’re dealing with ruthless characters like Sweet Tooth (Joel Seanoa and Will Arnett) and Mr. Grimm (Richard de Klerk), who are both competing fiercely for top position. The clown has no sense of morality and doesn’t hesitate to take lives, while Grimm is a soul collector.

One could say the stakes have never been higher…

Twisted Metal cast members tease titular tournament in Season 2 of hit Peacock series

At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, principal cast member Joel Seanoa (or professional wrestler “Samoa Joe”) shared that the tournament will dominate a significant portion of the season. He also hinted at satisfying fans’ craving for car chases as there will be plenty to appease them, and they can’t wait for everyone to witness it.

One of the standout aspects of the Twisted Metal competition during Season 2 is that each character feels remarkably authentic and well-developed. This allows viewers to choose their favorite character to support and ultimately hope for their victory. Consequently, the tournament isn’t confined to a single episode; instead, it stretches across much of the season due to numerous missions. As a result, I believe everyone will find it engaging and be able to witness which character emerges victorious in the end. (attributed to series lead Anthony Mackie, portraying John Doe)

Meanwhile, Stephanie Beatriz (Quiet) remarked that Twisted Metal is unlike any other project she’s worked on in her career so far. She described it as “an unusual blend of hard-hitting humor, joke after joke, with a lot of action, and then it suddenly shifts to a very realistic, down-to-earth setting. I haven’t been involved in anything that combines genres as wildly as this does, yet it all comes together surprisingly well.

Reliving the ’90s and early 2000s in Peacock’s Twisted Metal TV series

In a world reminiscent of the Y2K scare, but with a more tragic outcome, Twisted Metal, originating from the popular PlayStation series since 1995, unfolds its story. This reality experienced a catastrophic collapse of modern technology in the early 2000s, leading to the end of civilization as we know it.

In the ’90s, as Seanoa recalls, there was a sense of impending doom, or at least it seemed that way to him. So he prepared himself then, and as it turns out, we’ve been preparing for such circumstances in the show as well.

Mackie, conversely, sees that decade differently, referring to it as “an exceptional era” where he had numerous victories.

He added: “Going back to a period when you were at your best is always enjoyable, as if I reached my pinnacle around 1998, humorously speaking. It’s satisfying. I feel like I’ve returned to triumphing again.
