Sea of Remnants is NetEase’s upcoming, swashbuckling new multiplatform release

  • Sea of Remnants is NetEase’s newest teased release
  • It features a musical rendition and pirate theming
  • But as of yet, there’s not much to go on, but a lot to speculate

Just a short while back, NetEase was not highly regarded by many, particularly in China where it originated. Known for putting profit before fun, the company has experienced a significant shift in public sentiment. This change was partly sparked by the successful launches of Marvel Rivals and Once Human. Now, they have revealed a fresh nautical teaser hinting at what could potentially be their next big success – Sea of Remnants.

It remains unclear what exactly it is, but we do know that it will feature a playful, toy-like appearance. Additionally, it’s intended to take place on the vast oceans and lean more towards the adventurous, pirate-style swashbuckling genre reminiscent of Errol Flynn’s exploits.

However, as for whether the game will feature turn-based mechanics, an open world setting, or something unconventional is yet undecided. Nonetheless, the teaser trailer offers a glimpse into its lush, vibrant visuals and numerous captivating locations that your quirky action figures can venture through.

Beyond the horizon

Based on NetEase’s aggressive approach with their latest launches and the choice of names, it wouldn’t shock me if Sea of Remnants is an endeavor to mimic Sea of Thieves. Rare has excelled in the open-world pirate RPG niche, and despite efforts like Skull & Bones, no one has managed to unseat them as the rulers in this domain so far.

However, if someone can improve upon or add a more captivating twist to an idea that’s already been explored, NetEase might be capable of achieving it. They demonstrated this ability by unseating Overwatch with their game Rivals, a feat many thought was unlikely at first.

In the realm of Role-Playing Games (RPGs), there’s an extensive variety of fantastic titles that NetEase would be up against. Can’t take my word for it?
