On its gleaming, well-maintained exterior, “Shifting Gears” might seem like just another lighthearted television sitcom, but beneath the surface lies a deeper emotional undertone that impacts both the characters’ narratives and some of the characters themselves. Tim Allen has discussed his role as a widower for the first time, while also exploring aspects of his character that he hadn’t previously. However, it’s intriguing to consider if he anticipated having a paternal influence on his co-star Seann William Scott.
The humorous actor, known for roles ranging from “American Pie” to the “Ice Age” franchise, assumes the character of Gabriel – a devoted employee of Matt’s, tasked with refurbishing a collection of classic cars, which are part of Tim Allen’s personal hoard. It’s been approximately two decades since Scott experienced the loss of his father William “Scotty” Scout, who succumbed to bone cancer in January 2007. However, it seems that working alongside Allen brings back memories from the past.
In conversation, Seann William Scott discussed his plans to further grow his television career with a well-known sitcom legend, Tim Allen (from Santa Clause). He mentioned the paternal energy he feels from Tim.
There’s a certain resemblance between him and my father, if you ask me. My father has been gone for some time now, but one of my brothers who enjoys the show texted me about it. He said, “Tim is quite similar to dad,” and I agreed, acknowledging that there indeed is a likeness.
It seems reasonable that after spending so many years as both a fictional father on television and a real-life father, Tim Allen might naturally exude a parental vibe.
Initially, Scott admitted he wasn’t completely certain about how Tim Allen would be when they initially met, but he was delighted to discover that unlike some established actors, Tim wasn’t overly formal or self-absorbed. In the words of the star from Lethal Weapon, this encounter proved otherwise.
It seems likely that with such a high level of achievement, there might be someone who isn’t as enjoyable to collaborate with or could display unpleasant behavior, perhaps even being somewhat arrogant… He certainly appears to be more comfortable in a male-dominated environment.
He’s not exclusively a friend of men, as his rapport with Kat Dennings during their work together suggests. In fact, they seemed to have built a strong connection while working on the show, indicating that he gets along well with people from the newer generation too.
Could it be possible that, during promotions for the first season, Allen might express similar sentiments about Seann William Scott in the future, just as he does about Jonathan Taylor Thomas, considering they worked together and Allen views the younger actor like a son to him?
It seems there might be a humorous reference to the potential meeting between Tim Allen and Stifler’s mother, but let’s hold off on that jest for another time.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve been eagerly waiting for updates regarding a possible second season of the hilarious half-hour comedy that graced our screens on ABC’s 2025 TV schedule in January. Although we haven’t heard anything about Season 2 yet, we can do our part by keeping the buzz alive by streaming the first season on Hulu. Let’s show our love for this show and keep our fingers crossed for more laughter!
