Thunderstorms illuminated Los Angeles on Monday night, heralding the arrival of the latest Marvel movie. Actors including Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Hannah John-Kamen and Lewis Pullman graced the premiere.

The movie chronicles an unusual band of anti-protagonists, consisting of Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker, who join forces for a perilous task. It’s garnering positive feedback after a challenging phase for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent times.

At the premiere event, I shared with The Hollywood Reporter, “There’s something amusingly complex about characters like mine, isn’t there? After all, are they really villains or heroes deep down? It’s a constant question that my character, Bucky Barnes, grapples with – and it seems the others do too.

Stan has been portraying this character for almost 15 years, showing up in various Marvel productions such as the Captain America movies, The Falcon and Winter Soldier series, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

Currently, he mentioned, “I believe the toughest phase for Bucky has likely ended for now,” and regarding portraying the character in Thunderbolts*, he likened it to Clint Eastwood’s role in Unforgiven. He saw Bucky as an experienced, world-weary character who had “been there, done that,” offering a sort of mentorship with a touch of humor. He’s curious to see how audiences will react to this portrayal of Bucky this time around.

Speaking of Pugh, it’s interesting to note that her character, Yelena Belova, leads their group. She further shared insights into how working within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) stands out compared to her past ventures.

Working on Marvel films is always mind-blowing; it’s as if they say, ‘We’re planning to do this?’ It’s hard to believe when someone mentions, ‘We’ll attach a wire to you,’ and it’s even more astounding when they add, ‘We want you to leap from the second tallest building in the world. What are your thoughts on that?’ she humorously remarked. Such tasks would never be considered for an ordinary occupation; it’s absolutely insane.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, portraying CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, exclaimed, “There aren’t enough words to describe being involved in making movies like this. It’s an absolute blessing, and I’m simply thrilled to contribute even a tiny bit to it. Why wouldn’t I want to be part of the excitement?”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, expressed, “Being part of this genre of filmmaking is beyond words. It’s a total blessing, and I’m just overjoyed to be a small part of it. Why wouldn’t I want to join in on the fun?
