As a long-time Marvel fan who has grown up with the cinematic universe, it’s hard not to feel a sense of nostalgic excitement when I hear about Sebastian Stan getting another call from Kevin Feige and co. It’s like Christmas morning every time, and Santa Claus is definitely still alive in the MCU.
Throughout the ever-changing cast of Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sebastian Stan has been a consistent figure within this expansive franchise. Stan first appeared as Bucky Barnes in 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” and since then, the character has developed significantly. Similarly to Barnes, Stan remains beloved by fans and shows no signs of exhaustion from the MCU. In fact, he recently shared what it feels like to receive a call for another superhero role, and as a fan myself, I can’t help but feel a warm smile.
As of now, the actor who played the lead in “A Different Man” has featured prominently or secondary in five Marvel Cinematic Universe films, made appearances in two additional movies, shared top billing on a television show and had guest roles on an animated series. Moreover, Sebastian Stan is slated to reprise his role in the 2025 release of “Thunderbolts” under Marvel Studios, as well as several other significant projects beyond that date. During a visit to the Zurich Film Festival, Stan shared his ongoing excitement about working with Disney’s superhero-focused company, mentioning a specific holiday when discussing his continued enthusiasm (as reported by Variety).
The excitement is similar to waking up on Christmas morning when the call arrives. Santa Claus continues to exist in our hearts. Marvel has granted us new adventures with [Bucky]. It’s not that he’s perfect now, but rather, a hero who grapples with his past actions. This struggle resonates with all of us. That’s the essence of it. That’s what we are, too.
For many of us, there’s no denying the delight that Christmas morning brings, especially when you’re a child. The anticipation of rushing towards the tree to uncover the gifts hidden beneath is simply exhilarating. It’s hard not to feel joyful thinking about receiving a call from Kevin Feige and company, as it mirrors the same euphoria one experiences during the holiday season. Indeed, it’s heartwarming to learn that the actor continues to cherish his role within the extensive Marvel universe.

I too enjoy Sebastian Stan’s insights on the character Bucky, who has evolved into a complex and identifiable figure. Once Steve Rogers’ best friend, Barnes transitioned from World War II soldier to mind-controlled assassin (the Winter Soldier) and later to a repentant soldier seeking redemption. As Stan pointed out, his character’s determination to act honorably and confront his past actions resonates with us. He’s a lovable character, which is why I look forward to seeing him in future Marvel films.
As a thrilled fan, I can’t help but express my excitement as a Romanian actor joins the Thunderbolts cast! This means more interaction with Barnes for me, and it looks like he’ll step into a de facto leadership position. From what we’ve seen so far, Barnes seems to form an uneasy alliance with characters like Yelena Belova, John Walker, Ava Starr, and others. The journey of Bucky in this film is yet to unfold, but we do know that the actor will reappear as Bucky in Avengers: Doomsday in 2026 and Secret Wars in 2027.
The future for Bucky Barnes, after the latest two superhero films, remains uncertain. Nevertheless, given that Sebastian Stan continues to care about his character and gets engaging content, I’m excited to see what happens next. At this moment, it appears that Stan, who has been defending these movies from criticism, still has plenty of work lined up in the Marvel Universe. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if he received a call from his colleagues at Marvel Studios for another project soon.
