SEGA “Not Interested” in Sonic Adventure Remakes, New Games Prioritized Instead

Fans of Dreamcast and hardcore Sonic enthusiasts continue to admire the Sonic Adventure series as if it’s on a pedestal. Although some aspects of these games feel outdated due to their mechanics, the swift gameplay and fantastic soundtrack still strike a chord with numerous fans. Of course, fans have been requesting SEGA to release a remake or remaster, but the company seems uninterested in doing so.

During an interview with Shacknews, Sonic Team’s head Takahashi Iizuka expressed understanding towards the calls for a remaster or remake of SA, but feels it would require excessive effort. Instead, Iizuka prefers to channel that energy into creating a fresh Sonic game rather than modernizing older titles to appeal to contemporary gamers.

Given the significant influence that the Sonic Adventure series has had on other games featuring the blue hedgehog, it’s surprising that Sega hasn’t yet remade or upgraded these classic titles. While they have been made available on platforms like PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, a proper re-release seems long overdue. Many fans had hoped for an update following Shadow’s appearance in the Sonic 3 movie, but unfortunately, that hasn’t materialized as expected.

Sega isn’t shy about updating or re-creating their games. Recently, they unveiled Persona 4 Revival during an Xbox Showcase and released Sonic X Shadow Generations, which is essentially an upgraded version of Sonic Generations featuring a fresh Shadow campaign. Even the classic Yakuza game, Yakuza 0, is getting a new iteration for the Nintendo Switch 2.

It’s plausible that SEGA might be subtly hinting at two upcoming remasters of the beloved game “Sonic Adventure,” given the current trend of remasters and remakes. Despite some outdated aspects, fans remain enthusiastic about these titles, so a re-release with quality-of-life enhancements or enhanced graphics would certainly be welcomed. However, it’s also possible that this is just speculation, as we seem to be getting new Sonic games before the potential Adventure remaster.

Given SEGA’s strong affinity for Sonic, it’s likely that his upcoming game will incorporate more elements inspired by Sonic Adventure. Although a remake may not be imminent, the character will continue to appear in new games. After all, there’s an exciting new kart racer featuring crossovers coming later this year.
