As a huge fan of Seiko’s rich history and innovative timepieces, I’m absolutely thrilled about the brand’s latest release – the Prospex Speedtimer SSC947. This colorful wristwatch is a stunning tribute to one of Seiko’s most iconic models, the 6139 “Pogue” chronograph.
The new Prospex Speedtimer SSC947 by Seiko is a vibrant timepiece, seemingly embodying a contemporary take on Seiko’s iconic “Pogue” chronograph model (model number 6139).
The Seiko 6139 “Pogue” watch, represented by a space icon for the brand, was worn by NASA astronaut Colonel William Pogue during his Skylab 4 mission in 1973. Over time, Seiko has reintroduced many of its vintage models, but this legendary reference remains unreissued in its entirety. The newest Prospex Speedtimer SSC947 can be seen as a respectful homage, featuring traits and design elements reminiscent of the original model.
With a case width of 41.4mm, the SSC947 model comes in stainless steel construction and features a Pepsi-style rotating bezel. Its rehaut and three chronograph subdials are coated in a matte black finish, enhancing the striking difference between the blue and red bezel and its sunray yellow dial.
The reference model is powered by a V192 solar movement, providing approximately 6 months of power autonomy once fully charged. The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SSC947 is slated for release in August this year, priced at around $700 USD. For further details, please visit Seiko’s official website.
