Series Mania: Banijay Consolidates French Fiction Business

Banijay France, the French branch of the worldwide independent TV corporation, is combining its scripted departments through a merger between Banijay Studios France and Shine Fiction, as announced today at Series Mania in Lille. The combined company will operate under the Shine Fiction brand and be headed by chairman Dominique Farrugia, with Guillaume Thouret as chief operating officer.

The revised label is geared towards producing high-quality scripted programs, suitable for both traditional TV networks within our region and international streaming services.

The freshly combined production company now manages a collection of prominent films, such as “Marie Antoinette,” that has been distributed in over 140 territories through Banijay Rights and is currently airing its second season on Canal+ and Apple TV+’s culinary-focused period drama in French, “Carême.” They also have upcoming projects like the comedy-crime series “The Family Detective” (TF1), suspenseful thriller “Rien ne t’efface” (TF1), and coming-of-age drama “Désenchantées” (France TV).

Alexia Laroche-Joubert, CEO of Banijay France, expressed that by strategically merging these well-known labels under the Shine Fiction umbrella, we will unlock an unprecedented level of creative and production prowess for our scripted projects in France. We aim to fortify and broaden our influence in scripted content, and with Dominique and Guillaume leading the charge, we are ready to boldly produce premium storytelling for viewers not just in France, but globally as well.

Banijay France is consistently growing its collection of scripted content, with forthcoming projects such as “Asterix & Obelix: The Big Fight,” created by Montmartre Film for Netflix, and “Montmartre,” a collaboration between Authentic Productions and TF1.

Banijay Entertainment, Europe’s top scripted studio, boasts a vibrant mix of fresh and returning series like “House of Guinness” (Kudos/Netflix), “The World According to Lidea Poët” (Groenlandia/Netflix), “Elixe” (Topkapi/New 8), “Rogue Heroes” (Kudos/BBC One), “Fallen” (Filmlance/TV4), “Bergerac” (Blacklight TV for U and U& Drama), and “Culpa Tuya” (Pokeepsie/Prime Video). At Series Mania, several of Banijay’s notable productions will be featured, including the global premiere of “Carême” and the festival debuts of “A Life’s Worth” (Yellowbird/Jarowskij/Viaplay/Arte) and “Weiss & Morales” (Portocabo/RTVE/ZD).
