Seth Meyers Tells an Eerily Familiar Story in This Viral SNL Halloween Sketch

As a self-proclaimed SNL enthusiast who’s spent countless hours binge-watching their iconic sketches, I must say that Seth Meyers‘ viral Halloween tale from 2018 is an absolute gem. This isn’t your typical haunted house or creepy clown story – no, this one hits a bit too close to home for any of us who’ve ever had an overzealous acquaintance or friend with an inflated sense of self-importance.

Halloween wouldn’t feel right without spine-tingling campfire tales or humorous Saturday Night Live skits, luckily there’s a viral 2018 sketch that satisfies both cravings. Unlike traditional ghost stories or urban legends, the one Seth Meyers tells isn’t fantastical; it’s a true account that could happen to nearly anyone.

In the viral “A Frightening Tale” sketch from SNL’s Season 44, Episode 3 (available for viewing above), cast members Melissa Villaseñor, Heidi Gardner, Alex Moffat, and Beck Bennett gather near a campfire. They inquire of host Jimmy Fallon to spin a chilling yarn.

Gardner queries, “Do you have any good suggestions?” To this, Meyers suggests they “might as well call it a day” instead.

“Oh, come on man,” Moffat hits back at him.

Alright, if you’re up for it, let me share an experience. The twist is, it wasn’t a tale I made up; it actually happened to me. It was approximately two years back, when I was still working at the advertising agency.

Seth Meyers terrifies with a scary story about a college grad who “had a lot to say”

In the narrative, Meyers proceeds to share a chilling tale, detailing how he received a phone call from his father, requesting a coffee meeting with Connor, portrayed by cast member Kyle Mooney in this account.

“That’s no big deal, right?” Moffat says.

Meyers specifies that the individual is a 22-year-old who has recently graduated from college. Additionally, he or she harbors dreams of becoming a filmmaker.

The camera shifts to Connor expressing his thoughts on current films, stating they’re mostly remakes or follow-ups. “It seems like Hollywood lacks fresh concepts…but don’t worry, when I create my own films, they’ll definitely stand out. Believe me.

“So his take was that basic?” Bennett asks in fear.

“Exactly, but like he was the first person who ever said it,” Meyers responds.

The story continues that Meyers was there listening to Connor “break down the state of the industry” for over two hours.”

Connor was upset, exclaiming, ‘When did everything become a film adaptation of video games or thrill rides?’ He sighed, ‘Couldn’t Hollywood produce something about real people instead? I’d prefer movies that require a bit of thought.’ So perhaps a disclaimer before these films should read: ‘This movie may stimulate your mind.’

Following a coffee conversation that seemed to irritate Meyers, Connor escalates his communication with a flurry of text messages left unread by Meyers.

“3D? Dude, hurts my eyes,” one message reads.

“Duder! Grab a beer?” reads another.

“Happy Thanksgiving, brutha,” yet another blue text bubble says

Later, Meyers discloses that to lift the “curse” from Connor, he must transfer him to someone else during the campfire gathering, and unfortunately, it’s Bennett. “I’m truly sorry,” Meyers tells Connor as he emerges from the shadows, asking, “Would you like to join my podcast? We discuss timeless films of Hollywood.
