As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Seth Rogen has unveiled the unconventional, frenetic style he’s using for his fresh satire on Apple TV+, titled “The Studio“. In a chat with Esquire, Rogen spilled the beans about each scene being shot as a single, extended take. This creative choice aims to let viewers dive deep into the whirlwind energy of movie studio production.
To me, this character is incredibly amusing. It’s hilarious to observe the mix of emotions like panic, joy, pride with success, carefulness in managing risks, and love for the set. Yet, ironically, it’s also tragic that despite their joy, no one seems to want them close – a paradox that adds to the humor.
We aimed for the performance to capture a dynamic, frenetic atmosphere. This is reflective of what it feels like inside these bustling spaces filled with heated debates. Our intention was to draw you in and generate an unsettling, unpredictable vibe.
To create a series centered around a Hollywood studio, it’s crucial to include popular actors and directors. The Studio delivers on this promise, and even exceeds expectations. Seth Rogen heads the main cast, with Kathryn Hahn, Catherine O’Hara, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders in supporting roles. However, the first trailer for this comedy series hinted at numerous A-list celebrities sprinkled throughout. The list includes Bryan Cranston, Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Martin Scorsese, Zach Efron, Charlize Theron, Anthony Mackie, and Ron Howard, all unveiled in the initial trailer. It’s anticipated that these cameos will only be the beginning, with more to be revealed when The Studio debuts on March 26.
‘The Studio’ Features Fake Trailers…Including Diarrhea Zombie Movie ‘DUHPOCALYPSE’
The Apple TV+ series, “The Studio,” offers a humorous behind-the-scenes perspective on Hollywood, even tantalizing viewers with fictional movie trailers we yearn to see in reality. During this year’s Super Bowl, Apple TV+ unveiled an advertisement for the show, showcasing one of these fake trailers. The title of the film within the commercial, “DUHPOCALYPSE,” stars
and
as two individuals surviving a lethal diarrhea zombie apocalypse. That’s correct!
In the show, Seth Rogen, who not only acted but also co-authored, co-produced, and co-directed The Studio, plays the boss of a film studio, constantly burdened by the pressure of his position. In a scene from DUHPOCALYPSE, following an encounter with a zombie, the undead creature lets loose, defecating on Josh Hutcherson. Hutcherson is splattered with red and brown matter, and starts to lose it, realizing he’s now doomed to transform into a zombie that excretes diarrhea. Knoxville then steps in to end his suffering with a quick death blow.
The scene shifts to the studio conference room, where Knoxville, his attorney, and some executives are talking about cinemas refusing to screen the trailer. As portrayed by Knoxville’s character, DUHPOCALYPSE is described as a sharp satire that delves into medical misinformation. While film critics can occasionally overanalyze thematic connections, the interpretation of DUHPOCALYPSE seems to be pushing the boundaries even for us.
One of two recently debuted comedy shows, “The Studio,” has made a big splash in Hollywood within the past year. In 2024, HBO brought us an exclusive peek behind the scenes of the production of commercial superhero films, a series modeled on real-life events from the creation of Marvel and DC movies. Notably, “The Studio” is inspired by numerous true tales. As the studio executive who served as inspiration for the comedy series confessed to Rogen, he was often tasked with providing feedback, only to lament, “I got into this job because I love movies, but now my role is to tarnish them.” This is a brief summary of “The Studio.
In this new role, Seth Rogen portrays Matt Remick, the freshly appointed leader of troubled Continental Studios. Amidst a tough time for films trying to stay afloat and relevant, Matt and his team of quarreling executives grapple with their doubts as they navigate dealing with egotistical artists and greedy corporate bosses in their constant quest to create exceptional movies. Under the guise of their power suits, they face every gathering, studio visit, casting choice, marketing session, and award ceremony as a chance for shining triumph or devastating failure. Being deeply passionate about cinema, this job that Matt has long aspired to could either make his dreams come true or break him entirely.
