Seth Rollins Confirms His ‘Captain America 4’ Role Has Been Cut

Initially, the WWE star was planned to feature in the 2025 Marvel Cinematic Universe film “Captain America: Brave New World” as a secretive villain; however, recent changes in filming have significantly reduced his involvement and even eliminated him from the movie altogether. This much-anticipated Marvel film has faced numerous production challenges, making it one of the franchise’s most troubled productions. Despite impressive previews and the buzz surrounding Harrison Ford as the Red Hulk, the movie has been hit with rumors about a problematic shoot that required multiple adjustments and reshoots to accommodate script revisions.

It appears that Seth Rollins won’t be featuring in the movie as he announced on the Chris Van Vliet podcast, stating explicitly, “I’m not part of that film. I’m not in the movie… I do not want anyone to go to the film thinking they’ll see me. I don’t want those few fans who might have expected it to waste their time.” He wants to make sure no one is misled about his involvement in the project.

Speaking as a die-hard cinema lover, I shared my thoughts on how my part was trimmed from the movie due to numerous script revisions it underwent. Though I gave it my best during auditions for alternative roles within the film or perhaps other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, it seems the project took a different creative path.

As the actor who initially signed on for a role in this production, I find myself pondering the implications of my Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) now that I’m no longer part of the film. To set the record straight, any insights I share are merely my personal perspective on the matter.

The script underwent numerous revisions and reshoots, resulting in a significant shift in my role. It seemed like an audition for another part or perhaps a revised version of my original role, but ultimately, the creative team chose a different path. The process involved many changes and I wasn’t privy to the final decision-making process.

From what I gather, the script was rewritten extensively, scenes were reshot multiple times, and they’ve finally reached a point where they believe they have a polished product that will hopefully be successful. However, this project will proceed without my character, Seth Rollins.

It’s speculated that Rollins could be part of The Serpent Society, with whispers pointing towards him becoming their leader, known as King Cobra. However, it’s been confirmed that Rosa Salazar will play Diamondback, although her character might have a smaller role. Initially, there were rumors suggesting the Serpent Society would be eliminated from the movie, but during the reshoots for “Captain America: Brave New World,” Giancarlo Esposito was cast as Sidewinder, a member of The Serpent Society. Given that Esposito joined during the reshoots and has been prominently showcased in the film’s promotional material since then, there’s a strong possibility that Sidewinder may have taken on the role originally intended for Rollins as King Cobra.

The State of ‘Captain America: Brave New World’

The film “Captain America: Brave New World” has faced numerous challenges on its journey to the cinema. Initially scheduled for a theater release on May 3, 2024, it was eventually moved to July 26, 2024. However, this date was later assigned to “Deadpool & Wolverine,” making “Captain America: Brave New World” the only MCU film of 2024, which was then pushed back to a release date on February 14, 2025. Despite completing filming in June 2023, the movie underwent several reshoots, one round during the summer of 2024 and more recently in November 2024. This is why it’s being released so many months after “Deadpool & Wolverine,” despite having wrapped production earlier.

It’s disheartening that Rollins didn’t make it into “Captain America: Brave New World,” but such occurrences aren’t unprecedented within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Since the MCU is known for its continuous evolution, several prominent actors have filmed scenes for various projects only to have them ultimately removed. For instance, Jeff Goldblum and Peter Dinklage reprised their roles as The Grandmaster and Eitri in “Thor: Love and Thunder,” alongside Lena Heady who initially appeared in a yet-to-be-revealed role but was later cut from the final film. Similarly, Katherine Langford was once slated to portray an adult Tony Stark’s daughter, Morgan Stark, in “Avengers: Endgame,” but that role was eventually scrapped due to test audiences finding the cameo puzzling. Nevertheless, given The Serpent Society’s flexible nature, there’s always a chance Rollins could reprise his role as King Cobra in another MCU project at some point in the future.
