‘Severance’ Renewed at Apple TV+ on Heels of Season 2 Finale

Waffle parties for everyone: Severance will return for a third season at Apple TV+.

The host revealed the news about the show’s continuation mere hours following the conclusion of the second season of “Severance”, which aired on Thursday night. To date, this Apple TV+ series has been their most-watched drama program.

Just a few hours post the airing of the second season finale for “Severance” on Thursday evening, the host announced its renewal. It is currently the most popular drama series that Apple TV+ has ever produced.

For me, nothing compares to the excitement of potentially creating even more ‘Severance’ alongside this world-class team of creators and performers,” said Dan Erickson, series creator, writer, and executive producer, in a statement. “I can hardly wait to share more misery, joy, fear, and mischief with these exceptional individuals.

Speaking about the unique premise of the show where characters have separate work and personal identities, executive producer and director Ben Stiller expressed that working on Severance has been one of the most creatively stimulating experiences he’s ever had. He mentioned that he doesn’t remember this, but he’s told that creating season three will be just as enjoyable. However, any awareness of these future events will be erased from his memory just like before.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, playfully referenced the TV show “Severance” in a tweet following recent news, echoing an earlier jest. On Friday morning, he directly addressed Ben Stiller with this message on platform X: “Season 3 of Severance is ready to be requested whenever you are,” he wrote, signing off as “Tim C.

In keeping with the style of “Severance,” the season two finale (without revealing any spoilers) addressed some mysteries surrounding Lumon Industries while creating more questions. The timing of its renewal could potentially lead to a shorter gap between seasons. This is because, due to writers and actors striking for improved contracts in 2023, season two debuted nearly three years after the end of the initial series.

Adam Scott, both a star and executive producer, expressed immense enthusiasm about reuniting with Ben, Dan, the remarkable cast and team, Apple, and everyone involved with Severance. A quick side note: if you happen to notice my belly button (innie), kindly keep this excitement under wraps for me, thanks!

Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, remarked, “The enchantment that Ben, Dan, Adam, and their gifted team have created with Severance is simply undeniable. We’re incredibly proud to be the platform for this exceptional series, and we can’t wait for viewers to see what awaits them in season three.

In the initial six episodes of Season 2, the show “Severance” has garnered a staggering 3.68 billion minutes of viewing time in the United States, according to Nielsen. Interestingly, only Season 3 of “Ted Lasso” has had higher viewership among Apple TV+ series. Apple boasts that “Severance” is their most popular series worldwide (although, as with many streaming services, they didn’t disclose exact global viewing figures).

Scott features alongside Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, Patricia Arquette, Sarah Bock and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson in this production.

Fifth Season Productions is responsible for the television series “Severance.” Alongside Dan Erickson and Ben Stiller, John Lesher, Jackie Cohn, Mark Friedman, Beau Willimon, Jordan Tappis, Sam Donovan, Caroline Baron, Richard Schwartz, Nicholas Weinstock, Scott, and Arquette serve as executive producers.
