This episode provided many long-awaited answers regarding enigmas like the goats and Cold Harbor, while simultaneously posing new questions to consider for Season 3. One question that particularly intrigued me was Mark’s decision to abandon Gemma at the door and reenter the office with Helly during the final scene of the season finale. Naturally, I felt compelled to seek clarification from Dichen Lachman, who plays the role of Gemma.
In the Season 2 finale, following a long struggle for reconciliation, Mark found himself reunited with his wife, Gemma. Yet, this joyous moment was not without its trials, as Mark’s inner self, the ‘innie’, was reluctant to facilitate Gemma’s escape due to potential lethal consequences for him and all other innies. Consequently, instead of staying with Gemma, Mark returned to the tumult, going back with Helly through the locked door while she cried out in despair.
Currently, I needed to inquire from Dichen Lachman about the feelings of her character regarding this decision, as all we observe is her shouting. In a conversation with TopMob, she shared her thoughts on this topic.
In essence, she is piecing together the situation, yet yearns for a way to reach him since it’s heartbreaking for her to believe he might have done this, given Mark’s character. After all, it seems like someone else is involved. Thus, she is working through the puzzle and making one final effort to connect with him on some level.

In the final episode of Season 2, we witnessed a significant interaction between Mark’s belly button (innie) and navel (outie) for the first time, and it was evident that they held differing views. This discrepancy was further emphasized when the innie representation of Adam Scott’s character left his outie’s wife outside the door to the lower level without him.
He rushed back into Lumon, holding Helly’s hand, setting us up for a turbulent Season 3, particularly regarding Mark’s complicated relationships with his two lovers. Now that we’ve learned there will be another season due to the swift renewal of this popular Apple TV+ series following the finale premiere, I’m eagerly awaiting to see how this intriguing storyline unfolds.
Lachman’s insights fueled my anticipation even further, as she delved into the intricacies of this scenario and hinted at potential avenues for exploration in the upcoming season. In simpler terms, she shared more about the complexities of the situation and what we might see next time around.
Wow, Gemma’s situation is quite complex. She has several internal issues, and I’m unsure how Lumon is involved in this indirectly. There are numerous potential scenarios here. If we’re lucky enough to delve into these possibilities, I can’t wait to see what Dan [Erickson] creates. He’s incredibly talented, and I have high hopes that whatever we uncover will be fantastic if we get the chance.

I’m equally eager as you to discover the new creations from Dan Erickson for the upcoming season of Severance. Given that Gemma has been trapped in Lumon for such a duration, I’m intrigued to witness her re-entry into normal life. I’m keen on learning about the fates of Mark and Helly. Moreover, I can’t help but wonder how the dual personalities of Mark will collide over his choice to let Gemma leave him.
In the final scene, a profound conundrum was subtly laid out for Adam Scott’s character, as well as Helly and myself – a predicament I believe none of us are fully aware of yet. Gemma’s intense, emotional response hints that she might be slowly grasping what transpired, but it remains to be seen whether she indeed climbed the stairs or not.
