Hey there everyone who enjoys watching Severance! If you missed the news: The eagerly awaited third season of the hit Apple TV+ series has officially been announced.
When news broke that “Severance” Season 2 would air in 2025, there was a collective sigh of relief as viewers had waited three years. Now, “Severance” has taken the top spot among shows on the streaming platform, surpassing “Ted Lasso” in popularity (despite the latter being confirmed for its fourth season).
Excitingly, as soon as the Season 2 finale aired, it was announced that Severance would be returning for Season 3! Naturally, everyone is eager to learn more about it. Here’s what we know so far – and what you can anticipate.
What Is The Severance Season 3 Premiere Date?
As I’m typing this, it appears that “Severance” Season 3 doesn’t yet have a confirmed release date, which isn’t really shocking since the Season 2 finale was only aired this month.
At least, we have some notion about the duration until the next season begins, which is comforting because it won’t take as long as the last time.
On the “New Heights” podcast hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce, Ben Stiller (executive producer/director of “Severance”) mentioned that the gap between Season 2 and potentially Season 3 will be shorter than the wait between Seasons 1 and the current season. This is good news as we won’t have to endure another three-year delay. Fingers crossed, it means we might get new episodes as early as 2026!
The Severance Season 3 Cast

Based on the suspenseful ending of Season 2, it appears several characters from the “Severance” cast might reappear, although their return hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. These characters include:
- Adam Scott as Mark Scout/Mark S.
- Zach Cherry as Dylan George/Dylan G.
- Britt Lower as Helena Eagan/Helly R.
- Tramell Tillman as Seth Milchick
- Jen Tullock as Devon Scout-Hale
- Dichen Lachman as Gemma Scout/Ms. Casey
- Michael Chernus as Ricken Hale
- Patricia Arquette as Harmony Cobel
In Episode 9, I decided not to include John Turturro as Irving Bailiff/Irving B. and Christopher Walken as Burt Goodman for now because their stories were left unresolved at the end of the episode. But, let’s delve deeper into that soon.
Nonetheless, it seems highly probable that we’ll witness a lot of our beloved characters in the upcoming season, given the suspenseful and heart-wrenching ending involving Gemma, Mark, and Helly disappearing mysteriously somewhere.
What Will Severance Season 3 Be About?

As a devoted fan, I’m eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the enigmatic world of Severance, although details about Season 3 are still scarce. However, tantalizing hints from the creative team have piqued my curiosity. Here’s what we’ve gathered so far:
Season 3 Will Have A Much Different Tone
In Season 2 of “Severance”, the narrative delved further into the realm of psychological thrillers, leaving us puzzled at times. However, the most intriguing instance was undeniably the final scene where Mark and Helly are seen fleeing down a corridor, away from the exit. In an interview with IndieWire in March 2025, Ben Stiller explained that this scene represents a shift in the overall “tone” of the series.
It seems as though the message is subtly indicating a shift in mood or environment, implying that we’re venturing into an alternate world or scenario for these individuals.
With this in mind, there’s a lot that this can lead to.
Season 3 Will Dig Deeper Into People Uniting Against Lumon In Solidarity
In Season 2, we got a glimpse of potential consequences when various groups from the fragmented Lumon facility join forces. It seems like Season 3 could delve deeper into this topic.
In an interview with GQ in March 2025, creator Dan Erickson discusses the scene where Dylan G. aligns with another department on a floor that’s been divided, facing off against Milchick. This scene symbolizes the budding unity among departments, a dynamic that is expected to be further developed in future episodes.
Lumon’s focus lies in breaking down and overcoming challenges on both an individual and a broader scale. The isolated layout of the building, where departments seldom interact, reflects this division. This season aims to explore the consequences when individuals who have been kept apart begin to unite and discover their combined strength.
In other words, the term ‘begin’ likely indicates that Season 3 will delve deeper into that particular scenario.
John Turturro Believes This Isn’t The End For Irv
Previously, we noted that both Irv and Burt’s outcomes are uncertain at this point. In our last glimpse, they were at the train station, with Burt sending Irv off to evade Lumon. However, we have no further information about what befalls Irv, and neither character reappears in the finale.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in March 2025, John Turturro expressed his belief that the story of Burt and Irv may not have reached its conclusion. While it could potentially end if someone chose to do so, Turturro suggested that there is still more to be revealed about their tale.
If someone wanted the story to be complete? It could be! But I think there’s so much more here.
With that in mind, we might get some answers to Burt and Irv’s fate after all in Season 3.
They Are Actively Writing The Third Season Now

At this point, it’s clear that work on “Severance” Season 3 is underway, even though filming hasn’t started (as you might expect). In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in March 2025, Ben Stiller revealed they are currently immersed in the writer’s room and actively developing Season 3.
Indeed, just this development itself is cause for celebration since we’re about to uncover the answers we’ve been seeking. Frankly, I can’t wait to lay my hands on those answers.
I’m curious to see what new elements await us in Season 3 of “Severance”. I understand the wait might be lengthy, but let’s not forget that the intrigue and significance of the story make it all worthwhile.
