Watching their bond grow on-screen, only to find out they live mere minutes apart in real life, is like stumbling upon a secret cheat code that I never knew existed.
After a long wait, the third season of “The Sex Lives of College Girls” has found its spot on the 2024 TV lineup, but not without saying farewell to a beloved character. Every week, fresh episodes of “TSLOCG” air every Thursday, and in the latest episode, Reneé Rapp’s character Leighton bid adieu. Although it was announced a year ago that the actress from “Mean Girls” would be departing in Season 3, it didn’t make the goodbye any less emotional for both the fans and the cast. However, there’s still hope for Rapp and her fellow actors, as Alyah Chanelle Scott shared that she remains linked to the singer even after leaving the show.
In Episode 2 of Season 3, we witness a heartfelt gathering where the roommates celebrate together, marking Leighton’s final day before departing to attend MIT the next morning. Although it pained me to bid her farewell, it seldom felt like a true goodbye since we reside just three minutes apart. In essence, I was more like this: “I’m tearing up because you won’t be at work, I suppose, but I’ll catch up with you at home.
Isn’t it rather amusing that this current setup resembles college life so much? Oh, how I long for the days when I lived mere steps away from my closest friends…
Meanwhile, as Leighton bids farewell to Whitney, it seems that Reneé and Alyah remain inseparable, hinting that there will likely be more TikTok collaborations from this dynamic duo on the horizon.

The creators of the show, Justin Noble and Mindy Kaling, have officially confirmed that Rapp’s character will not be returning to Essex, which means fans must rely on social media updates about her. It seems unlikely that she’ll make an unexpected comeback during this season. Instead, it appears Leighton is flourishing in Boston with her partner and pursuing a career as a rocket scientist at MIT.
All in all, I’m really pleased that the show did an excellent job portraying the “Tummy Hurts” singer’s character. Watching how they developed as a team over time and their unwavering support for Leighton during her journey to accept her sexuality in Season 1 is something I will never forget, and I’m truly appreciative of it.
In essence, they stood by and empathized with the GLAAD award winner as she navigated her queer journey, a journey that mirrored aspects of the “Not My Fault” singer’s life. During an episode on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she discussed the challenges faced during Season 1 filming due to these parallels. Watching the current season, it becomes evident that the show holds great significance for her and her fellow cast members, a sentiment that is palpable in their emotional farewell, where acting seems less crucial and genuine feelings take center stage.
Scott recalled what it was like filming that final scene too, saying:
This significant moment for our circle of friends carries a sense of importance, as it seems to remind us all that our shared time and place are not eternal. I believe expressing these feelings was both relieving and tinged with sadness.

And our beloved housemates still have more to explore. They’re only in their second year, and based on the sneak peeks from Season 3, there are plenty more adventures and intimate encounters ahead for them.
It’s worth noting that Gracie Lawrence from the band Lawrence is joining Kimberly, Bela, and Whitney as their roommate in the upcoming series. Even though I’ll miss Leighton’s witty personality, I’m looking forward to seeing how this new character interacts with the rest of the group. Given that the cast has always been impressive, I have no doubt that Gracie will fit right in!
