Shaboozey stands up for Megan Moroney, who’s been facing criticism, following her statement about the Carter Family being the originators of country music during the 2025 American Music Awards.
At the American Music Awards ceremony, they jointly presented the award for Favorite Country Duo or Group. In their acceptance speech, they paid tribute to artists who had previously won AMA awards. The singer known as “Tennessee Orange” then read from a teleprompted script stating that the prize was being given to the Carter family, who are credited with pioneering country music.
As my side-eye moment towards X went viral across the internet, I felt compelled to share my thoughts online yesterday. On my gaming platform, I penned down, “When you delve into the genuine origins of country music, you’ll find a tale so potent it can’t be scrubbed away.” Later, I added another post saying, “The authentic history of country music is about people uniting despite their disparities, and acknowledging, appreciating, and rejoicing in what makes us similar.
In response to the recent uproar, the singer of “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” made it clear that his actions at the AMAs were unrelated to Megan Moroney. He expressed this in a comment under one of her Instagram posts detailing the AMAs from Tuesday night. Additionally, he asked fans to refrain from sending any negativity towards Moroney.

Shaboozey also pointed out that Moroney is a highly skilled, dedicated musician making fantastic contributions to country music. I hold her in high regard, without a doubt.
In a now-removed post, Shaboozey initially recommended his followers to investigate musicians such as Lesley Riddle, Steve Tarter, Harry Gay, and DeFord Bailey. These individuals are significant figures in country music, with Lesley Riddle being particularly influential on the Carter Family. The Carter Family is recognized as the founding family of country music by the Country Music Hall of Fame, and A.P. Carter credited Riddle for his assistance with songs and teaching Maybelle Carter her unique guitar style.
In recent times, the impact of Black musicians on the country music scene has gained increased attention in the world of music. This was evident as recently as last year with Beyoncé’s Grammy-winning country album titled “Cowboy Carter“. Dedicating her Grammy for ‘Album of the Year’, Beyoncé paid tribute to country trailblazer Linda Martell, who featured on the album in “Spaghettii” and “The Linda Martell Show”. Before the album’s release in March, Beyoncé openly shared that she initiated this project because she felt ‘unwelcome’ when attempting to break into the country music genre.
In an Instagram post at that time, the Grammy-winning artist made it plain I wasn’t accepted. However, this encounter prompted me to delve further into the heritage of Country music and explore our extensive musical collection. It’s heartening to observe how music can bring together countless individuals worldwide, while simultaneously boosting the voices of those who have dedicated their lives to educating us about our musical past.
