In an eagerly anticipated update, filmmaker Guddu Dhanoa has confirmed that a sequel to SRK’s debut movie Deewana from 1992 is under development. After over three decades since the original release, the script for Deewana 2 is being written, as Dhanoa shared in an interview with News18 Showsha.

“Indeed, we are working on Deewana 2, and we’re currently focusing on the scripting phase,” said Dhanoa. “There’s still some time before filming begins, as my web series will premiere first.”

For those unaware, Deewana marked the entrance of Shah Rukh Khan into Bollywood and significantly altered his life trajectory. The film was directed by Raj Kanwar and featured the late Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharti in lead roles. Khan portrayed a secondary yet impactful character, captivating audiences with his charisma and screen presence as the rebellious lover who won over a widow’s heart. His performance as Raja earned him immediate acclaim and paved the way for his path to stardom.

The original film was both a commercial and critical triumph, winning five Filmfare Awards, including Best Male Debut for Shah Rukh Khan. It became one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 1992 and continues to be a cherished memory among fans. The moving soundtrack, featuring songs like Aisi Deewangi, Sochenge Tumhe Pyaar, and Teri Umeed, played a significant role in its enduring popularity.

Now, over three decades later, Deewana is poised for a revival through its sequel. Although the cast for Deewana 2 has yet to be decided, anticipation surrounding the project is already building. It remains to be seen whether Shah Rukh Khan will reprise his role or if new characters will be introduced as part of a new generation.

Apart from Deewana 2, Guddu Dhanoa also disclosed plans for a follow-up to another of his hit movies, Bichhoo. He expressed that the initial film garnered immense affection from viewers, and currently, the team is engrossed in crafting the script for Bichhoo 2.

Known for making significant contributions to Indian cinema, Dhanoa not only produced Deewana but also introduced Diljit Dosanjh to Punjabi films with The Lion of Punjab in 2011. Reflecting on Shah Rukh Khan’s career, he highlighted that Khan’s transformation as an actor has been astounding, yet it is his personal traits, such as humility and kindness, that have contributed significantly to his long-lasting success. Dhanoa firmly believes that these qualities have played a crucial role in Khan’s enduring stardom.

In the meantime, Dhanoa’s upcoming directorial project titled Romeo S3 is scheduled to hit the screens on May 16th. The film, which falls under the genres of action and drama, has Thakur Anoop Singh playing the main character as a police officer, and Palak Tiwari in a significant role.
