Shah Rukh Khan’s first crush Mumtaz refuses to play his mother on screen: ‘Just because he likes me…’

Legendary Bollywood actress Mumtaz has openly stated that she won’t accept the role of Shah Rukh Khan’s mother in any movie, due to a personal policy she follows. In a recent conversation, the 77-year-old star shared that she is only interested in portraying a mother character for actors who are at least two decades her junior.

Shah Rukh Khan, who will be 60 years old this year, once jokingly admitted that his first crush was Mumtaz. In a recent conversation regarding this past statement, Mumtaz acknowledged it but hinted that he may have been kidding. However, when asked if she would consider portraying his on-screen mother, she flatly refused.

In conversation with journalist Vickey Lalwani, Mumtaz expressed that she’s willing to play the mother of an actor who is twenty years her junior, but only if she appears youthful on screen. She explained that she tied the knot at a young age and added that her actual children aren’t significantly younger than herself. In her current phase of life, Mumtaz emphasized that looks are crucial when selecting roles.

When asked about playing Shah Rukh’s mother given that Jaya Bachchan has done it before, Mumtaz replied, “That’s Jaya’s choice.” She then laughed and said, “I’d be happy to work with Shah Rukh if I could convincingly portray a motherly role. But I suspect he wouldn’t agree. After all, I don’t think I should have grey hair yet!

In all my fervor as his ardent admirer, allow me to clarify that Mumtaz’s words for Shah Rukh were nothing but heartfelt praises. “He’s not just smart, he’s incredibly intelligent. And his kindness? It’s simply unmatched. But let me make this clear – just because he holds a soft spot for me doesn’t automatically mean he’d cast me if I don’t fit the role.

In addition to showing appreciation for Jane Fonda, the iconic actress from Hollywood, Mumtaz specifically praised her portrayal in Mother-in-Law. She found Fonda’s character to be fashionable and assertive, mentioning that she might consider taking on roles with similar traits – elegant, stylishly dressed, and possessing a powerful persona. “Her character didn’t approve of a ‘gareeb’ (poor) girl,” Mumtaz explained. “She had the liberty to present herself as she wished, which is something I aspire for too.

Approximately 11 years back, Shah Rukh expressed during a media gathering that his initial two heartthrobs were Mumtaz and Saira Banu, referring to them as the most stunning ladies on the planet.
