In a more conversational style, The 2007 sports drama “Chak De! India,” directed by Shimit Amin and starring Shah Rukh Khan as Kabir Khan, has become a timeless classic, making a significant mark on Indian cinema. Lately, Vidya Malavade, who played the character of India’s captain Vidya Sharma in the film, shared her experience collaborating with SRK. Recently, as I chatted with ETimes, I couldn’t help but gush about Shah Rukh Khan. You know, he’s this extraordinary individual who seems to remember everything, his memory is as keen as a razor blade. His dedication to the project was evident too; handling a cast of sixteen ladies wasn’t a walk in the park. But through it all, he proved to be an exceptional coach, one we were incredibly fortunate to have. I can assure you, he’s not just our co-star, but forevermore, he’ll always be our team captain.
Upon contemplating the movie, Vidya referred to Chak De India as an ever-yielding present. She disclosed that she’d only seen the film once at the cinema, accompanied by her parents and family. Following this initial viewing, the entire group found it challenging to revisit the movie again.
In a playful turn of events, a theater proprietor extended an invitation for them to rewatch the movie, but upon arrival, they were swarmed by enthusiastic fans, forcing them to return home instead. The actress then implied that the film’s lasting popularity was likely because they got something right in their performance, and she gratefully acknowledged her parents’ blessings.
In “Chak De India,” Shah Rukh Khan portrays Kabir Khan, a previous Indian field hockey player who steps into the role of coach for the women’s national squad. The movie delves into concepts like unity, determination, and patriotism as Kabir guides an underestimated team to triumph while overcoming personal and societal challenges along the way.
The movie explores themes related to gender and group identity, showcasing the battles faced by its characters as they confront stereotypes and bias. Renowned for its gripping performances and potent storytelling, this film strikes a chord with viewers due to its strong, resonating message.
Currently, Vidya Malavade has been appearing in the third season of Mismatched, a well-known series headed by Prajakta Koli and Rohit Saraf.
