Shah Rukh Khan's Ra One director Anubhav Sinha says he was 'enamored' by superstar; 'Whatever he said sounded the gospel truth to me'

As a seasoned lifestyle expert, I find it fascinating to delve into the experiences of filmmakers like Anubhav Sinha and their collaborations with stalwarts such as Shah Rukh Khan. The story of Ra One serves as an intriguing reminder of the enchantment that a superstar can weave around even the most seasoned professionals in the industry.

In 2011, Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s movie titled Ra One, directed by Anubhav Sinha, made its debut. Despite having popular songs, it didn’t receive a positive reception at the box office. More recently, the director of Thappad reflected on their collaboration, admitting he was infatuated with the superstar during that time. He stated that anything Shah Rukh said felt like absolute truth to him.

During a recent conversation with casting director Mukesh Chhabra on Mashable India’s YouTube channel, Anubhav Sinha was asked about his experience of working with Shah Rukh Khan in Ra. One. In response to this, the filmmaker was quick to admit, “Vo bada acha bhi hai aur usmein mujhse kuch kamiyan bhi reh gayi (It’s good, but a lot of things lacked on my part).”

According to the director of IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, when he sat down with Shah Rukh Khan to discuss the script, the famous actor immediately showed interest. Sinha then went on to remember that King Khan inquired about the production timeline, to which he replied it would take him two years to properly prepare for the project. The director added that perhaps this commitment to thorough preparation was what convinced Shah Rukh Khan to collaborate with him.

According to Sinha, working with him was advantageous and rewarding. He mentioned an instance when they collaborated on a song with Vishal-Shekhar, and they suggested Akon as the perfect singer for the track. Interestingly, SRK expressed his surprise by inquiring if Sinha would sing in Hindi instead. King Khan replied that he’d explore the possibility of making it happen.

Later on, Anubhav reminisced about an incident when they needed to board a plane. Earlier, Shah Rukh had instructed him to depart a bit early due to some tasks. To his astonishment, they ended up at a nightclub located atop a hotel in Times Square, with Akon already there. He remembered the renowned artist addressing him as “a big man.

To wrap it up, the director confessed, “I was so captivated by him that anything he said seemed like absolute truth. However, this blind belief shouldn’t have happened. It wasn’t his mistake, it was mine.

Anubhav Sinha’s last directorial was IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack.
