Shah Rukh Khan’s THIS co-star recalls shocking incident at passport office after divorce: ‘15 din baad aaiye’

Actress Suchitra Krishnamoorthi has been candid about her previous marriage with filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, which took place in 1999 but ended in a divorce in 2007. The couple shares a daughter named Kaveri, who recently entered the acting world with Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story. More recently, Suchitra, known for her work alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, spoke openly about an unexpected occurrence at the passport office following her divorce. She disclosed that she was informed that individuals who have gone through a divorce are not eligible for immediate passports and was asked to come back after two weeks.

In an interview with Filmymantra, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi revealed that when her daughter Kaveri was a child, they often traveled to various countries together. Frequently, people would question why her last name differed from Kaveri’s. To eliminate such confusion, the actress chose to adopt Kapur as part of her surname, making it consistent with Kaveri’s name, which combines Krishnamoorthi and Kapur.

In addition to her memory, Suchitra also brought up an astonishing event that transpired at the passport office. She disclosed that when she visited the office to delete the surname Kapur following her divorce with Shekhar Kapur, the clerk identified her and made a startling remark. The actress from Shah Rukh Khan’s Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa exclaimed, “He said ‘divorcees are not given immediate service, come back in 15 days.’ I was taken aback. Yet, can you fathom the audacity?

Beyond the current legislation, it’s challenging to alter deeply rooted attitudes such as patriarchal and misogynistic mindsets.

Previously, during a chat with RJ Siddharth Kannan, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi disclosed details about her marriage to Shekhar Kapur. She revealed that while he was opposed to her acting following their wedding, he permitted her to sing and feature in music videos.

Besides disclosing her intentions to depart from Shekhar and enroll in Berklee College with a partial scholarship for music studies, life presented unexpected twists. Upon discovering she was expecting, these circumstances caused her to remain where she was instead.

In spite of suggestions to bear another child for the sake of preserving the marriage, Suchitra prioritized her personal freedom over societal expectations, preferring instead to shape her life according to her own will.
