Shah Rukh Khan’s highly-anticipated comeback to the silver screen in Pathaan was met with widespread enthusiasm. One particular line that gained popularity was a powerful quote reminiscent of John F. Kennedy’s iconic saying. However, dialogue writer Abbas Tyrewala expressed his view that such dialogues can sometimes be overly dull. Let me share with you the reasoning behind his opinion!
In the action-packed movie Pathaan, SRK spoke many unforgettable lines, but one that particularly resonated was “A soldier doesn’t question what his country has done for him; he questions what he can do for his country.” This sentiment is reminiscent of a famous quote from the 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy.
During the performance, the crowd erupted with applause and cheers as the superstar recited the dialogue, yet scriptwriter Abbas Tyrewala preferred not to include this particular line in the film. When speaking to Lallantop Cinema, Abbas explained, “I had always been against the Kennedy line, but unfortunately, I couldn’t win that argument.
Tyrewala disclosed that he had initially decided against including such an antiquated phrase in the film, finding it overly criticized. However, it was ultimately the combined persuasion of director Siddharth Anand, producer Aditya Chopra, and screenplay writer Shridhar Raghavan that this specific line found its place in the 2023 movie. Tyrewala claims that they all firmly believed no other phrase could effectively capture the essence of this particular scene.
Initially, the scriptwriter thought the given dialogue was incredibly dull, but in the end, he conceded to his teammates’ preferences. Yet, he now realizes that if some folks appreciate that dialogue, it shows that scriptwriters aren’t always correct about what’s engaging or not.
He emphasized the significance of considering the views of the creators and consulting with a larger number of individuals involved in the movie production. As Abbas Tyrewala put it, “Sometimes things aren’t yours, but they are associated with you, and people remember you for those moments.
