Shahana Goswami opens up about scrutiny over ‘14 Kisses’ with Randeep Hooda in Ru Ba Ru: ‘I’ve never really felt…’

As a dedicated follower and admirer of Shahana Goswami‘s work, I find her journey through the world of cinema truly inspiring. Her ability to tackle challenging roles with grace, authenticity, and a fearless approach to on-screen intimacy is commendable.

Actress Sahana Goswami recently discussed her role in the 2008 film Ru Ba Ru, co-starring Randeep Hooda. In an open conversation, she reflected on the 14 kissing scenes in the movie and shared that she never felt defamed by them. Moreover, she commented that on-screen intimacy has progressed significantly over time and is no longer considered a sensitive topic.

In a recent chat with News18, Shahana Goswami talked about her 2008 film Ru Ba Ru. Goswami recalled the controversy surrounding its depiction of intimacy, particularly the more than ten kisses shared between her and co-star Randeep Hooda.

She shared that the audience particularly pointed out the fourteen kisses in the movie, which she found amusing since they were just casual pecks between a couple living together. At that point, she admitted, such scenes were considered controversial because it was difficult for people to accept them as genuine depictions of relationships.

Shahana pointed out that societal perspectives on screen romance have undergone substantial changes. She noticed that scenes previously enhanced with slow-motion and intricate cinematography to depict kissing, are now portrayed with more genuine and realistic touches.

She attributed this change to evolving views on female autonomy and a wider evolution in the portrayal of sensuality, intimacy, and love in films.

The actress, recognized for roles in movies such as Zwigato and Santosh, mentioned that she’s enacted more personal scenes than numerous contemporaries, yet she’s never encountered audience criticism over these portrayals.

Shahana openly discussed her confidence in portraying various acting roles, including the tough ones, and mentioned that most responses from the audience on social media have been encouraging. She further noted that despite stirring diverse opinions, she’s never experienced being criticized or maligned for her performances.

In her professional career, she will appear next in the film “Despatch” alongside Manoj Bajpayee. The movie is generating quite a buzz for its intense theme and depiction of intimacy. The release date for “Despatch” is set for December 13, 2024, on Zee5. This production was exhibited as a special presentation at the International Film Festival of India and the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.
