Finally, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander‘s first signature shoe with Converse, the SHAI 001, has been unveiled. Our partnership with SGA dates back to the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend, where he eagerly took on the role of representing Converse Basketball and its Weapon campaign. Rumors about his own signature shoe followed soon after, and by December, he was named Creative Director of Converse Basketball and unveiled his personal logo. Now, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander begins his fifth year with Converse, he proudly presents the result of his dedication – the SHAI 001.
The SHAI 001 shoe is for individuals who prefer to break free from conventional norms and traditional expectations, much like SGA’s versatility on the basketball court. SGA wasn’t just involved in testing the shoe; he was instrumental in designing his logo and shaping the overall style of the shoe. He even provided hand-drawn sketches to the Converse team, which influenced the final design significantly. The new model seamlessly combines comfort, containment, durability, and style into a basketball shoe that offers an exceptional playing experience on and off the court. By utilizing the combined resources of Converse and Nike, they’ve managed to create a high-performance shoe that truly stands out.
Upon closer inspection, this sneaker initially presents in a single-toned “Butter” color scheme, with a deep yellow hue running throughout its construction. The design intricacies are quite noteworthy; the upper is puffed at various points to give it a more defined shape, with a winged shroud and collar enhancing this effect. Additionally, extra cushioning has been added to the SGA-branded tongue for a comfortable fit. This sneaker also boasts a unique combination of a zipper system enveloping its inner bootie and a Ghillie lacing system. The zipper incorporates a locking mechanism that allows it to be worn fully zipped, half-zipped or completely down. Regarding the performance, the sole unit includes a Zoom Air bag at the front and exhibits a radial traction pattern at the outsole, highlighting SGA’s quick maneuvers and explosive speed.
Although SGA (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander) and Converse haven’t announced a release date for the SHAI 001 sneaker before fall, keep an eye out as he’ll be seen wearing different colorways of the shoe throughout the season.
