As a long-time Marvel fan who has been through the rollercoaster of highs and lows that is the MCU, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and apprehension when it comes to the upcoming Avengers movies, especially _Avengers: Doomsday_. The reports about Shang-Chi being a main character in _The Kang Dynasty_ have left me yearning for more of Simu Liu’s brilliant portrayal of the Master of Kung Fu.
People who’ve followed the Marvel films for years are well aware that this interconnected universe keeps expanding, appearing on the big screen as well as on Disney+. Fans can’t wait to find out more about upcoming Marvel movies, particularly the two Avengers films by The Russo Brothers. A recent rumor suggests that Shang-Chi might have played a significant role in The Kang Dynasty, and I truly hope he gets his due attention in Doomsday.
The available details on “Avengers: Doomsday” are scarce, but it appears that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is abandoning the Kang storyline entirely. Despite Robert Downey Jr.’s upcoming role as Doctor Doom, fans have numerous queries about the characters introduced in the MCU post-“Endgame.” A report by Inverse claims to possess insights into what was intended for “The Kang Dynasty,” focusing on Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi.
According to the narrative, Shang-Chi was expected to be among the primary characters in “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty“. Despite their eagerness, fans have yet to receive any updates regarding a sequel to “Shang-Chi”. Although the studio remains tight-lipped about its future plans, many believe that featuring him prominently in “Avengers 5” would be a fitting compensation for the wait.
The report doesn’t clarify whether the studio intends to feature Shang-Chi as one of the main characters in Avengers: Endgame. As someone who thoroughly enjoyed Simu Liu’s standalone film, I’m crossing my fingers that this becomes a reality. However, we’re yet to learn how Doctor Doom will enter the MCU and impact the narrative of the upcoming blockbuster. For now, we can only speculate.
Since Avengers: Endgame claimed the title of the highest grossing film ever, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has experienced several misfortunes. For instance, Eternals didn’t live up to expectations and won’t have a sequel, while Ant-Man 3 and The Marvels underperformed at the box office. However, the achievement of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings stands out as particularly meaningful in light of these setbacks.
As a gamer, I can’t help but feel in the dark about what’s coming up in “Avengers: Doomsday.” With the Fantastic Four likely squaring off against Doctor Doom, it’s possible that Shang-Chi might take a back seat and become more of a supporting character. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
It appears that the studio has laid the groundwork for Simu Liu’s future roles by introducing him with the post-credits scene of Shang-Chi. In this scene, he interacted with several Avengers such as Wong, a Bruce Banner not in his Hulk form, and Captain Marvel. Therefore, if and when he appears in the next Avengers film, it’s likely that he will have established connections with these heroes. Fingers crossed that we hear more about this from the studio or Simu Liu himself as soon as possible.
The upcoming film titled “Avengers: Doomsday” is projected to hit cinemas on May 1, 2026. In the meantime, feel free to explore the list of movies set to be released in 2025.
