I have always been a huge fan of Shannen Doherty‘s acting talent and her resilient spirit. Her recent battles with cancer have touched my heart deeply, and it is devastating to hear of her passing at such a young age. In her final podcast episode, she shared her hopefulness amidst the fear of undergoing new chemotherapy treatments. She expressed the uncertainty of how long she would be on the treatment and the potential side effects, including losing her hair for the third time.
Shannen Doherty shared that she felt optimistic as she prepared for another round of chemotherapy treatments, which came before her passing.
Doherty lost her long battle with cancer and died Saturday at 53.
I sat down for the latest episode of my podcast, “Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty,” on June 23rd. As a gamer and actress, I try to keep things real and clear with my audience, especially when it comes to my health journey. In this episode, I shared an update on my battle against stage 4 breast cancer. I first fought this disease back in 2015, but unfortunately, it returned and spread to my bones, as I revealed in a cover story for People magazine last November. The fear of the unknown and the hope for a positive outcome weighed heavily on me as I recorded this episode.
“During my podcast, she expressed that the reality of her chemotherapy treatment hits her in a profoundly new way due to the uncertainty of its duration. She doesn’t know if it will last for three months or six months, or even if after three months, the treatment may need to be changed. This unpredictability is something she can’t fathom and her doctors can’t foresee either. It’s a frightening experience, serving as a stark reminder of the uncertainties that come with such a journey.”
The former star of “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Charmed” remarked, “There’s a silver lining in this. Although my cancer has changed recently, meaning more treatment options are available to me. It’s been a while since I’ve felt hopeful, but now I am, even if I was prepared before.”
When Doherty underwent two distinct chemotherapy treatments in a single day, she expressed her concerns, finding it somewhat alarming since she wasn’t entirely certain how she would react. Additionally, she mentioned this was the third occasion she would experience hair loss as a result of her treatment.
She expressed feeling lost and uncertain about her life for over a year due to going through a divorce and being diagnosed with cancer. With the cancer, she acknowledged that she had limited control over the situation.
She expressed her desire to maintain her health and keep her hair, stating, “I don’t wish to be ill or lose my hair. I yearn to live as an ordinary person.” Regarding the concept of prioritizing quality over quantity of life, she shared, “Although I have pondered this perspective, I believe that my quality of life is prolonged by staying alive. My goals and family are what make my life worth living. I’m not one to give up easily; I just don’t want my illness to last too long.”
She expressed hope for good health, crossing her fingers, and shared her intention to stay put for the time being. She also mentioned her trust in the new researchers and her primary doctor who are assisting her through this challenging phase. She expressed strong faith in their abilities.
In the recent episode of “Let’s Be Clear,” aired on July 8, before her passing, Doherty revealed on Monday that she was going to join Holly Marie Combs in the “Charmed” rewatch podcast, “The House of Halliwell.” It’s uncertain how many episodes they had recorded together.
With deep sadness, actress Shannen Doherty’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, announced her passing on July 13, 2022. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, she unfortunately succumbed to the disease. Her loving family, including her devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and cherished friend, were by her side, along with her faithful companion, Bowie. At this difficult time, the family kindly requests privacy to mourn their loss.
