Shark Drama, Throuples, and Bombshells: Doctor Odyssey Heats Up!

Warning! This article delves into the events of Doctor Odyssey‘s March 6 episode, titled “Shark Attack!” You can watch it on Hulu if you haven’t seen it yet.

In the 2025 TV lineup, Dr. Odyssey embarks on a new journey, leaving the fate of Max, Avery, and Tristan hanging in the balance when we catch up with the medical team aboard the cruise ship on “Shark Attack!” Interestingly, they aren’t the only ones performing operations after a series of dramatic events unfold. Adrianne Palicki makes an appearance as trauma surgeon Brooke Lane. The chemistry between Brooke and Max ignites immediately, causing tension with Avery, who is grappling with her pregnancy. Joshua Jackson shares insights on how this new dynamic will affect Avery’s emotional journey.

Joshua Jackson’s character, Max, has been embodying his inner Pacey, as he finds himself in an unconventional relationship with Avery (Phillipa Soo) and Tristan (Sean Teale). While the term “throuple” might be too formal, they’re undoubtedly more than just friends following a sexual encounter. The situation became even more complex when Avery got pregnant, leaving uncertainty about who the father is. To add to the chaos, Brooke, after undergoing double amputation surgery, boldly asked Max for intimacy. However, Avery stepped in to halt the moment, and Jackson discussed this intricate predicament with Collider, describing it as a challenging situation.

At our workplace, we value openness over boundaries, whether personal or professional. Here, there’s no room for such distinctions. [Adrianne Palicki’s] character, Brooke, serves as an additional voice within the medical field on the professional front. Max has always been the figure of authority, but despite the team dynamic among the entire medical staff, he remains the doctor in charge. However, when someone who is not only a doctor but also an expert in their field enters this space, Max finds himself in a position where his expertise is questioned.

In the realm of shark research, I find myself facing competition from a more accomplished colleague, a doctor, who seems to be giving me a run for my money. This situation is not sitting well with Avery, as he previously accused me of flirting during surgery with a charming shark doctor, Brooke. To make matters more intriguing, it appears that Brooke may have her sights set on the potential father of her child, adding another layer to this already complex dynamic.

Incidentally, “the surgery with the charming shark surgeon” was my favorite line from the episode, and here’s hoping we get more chances to work that into our conversations!

As for Brooke, Joshua Jackson continued:

On a more personal note, Avery finds it challenging when this new character, who appears as an equal to Max on the boat, is present. This is because Avery is grappling with the complexities of their relationship, the pregnancy, and her own aspirations. She’s like a time bomb that unexpectedly enters the scene, disrupting the established dynamics among the cast members.

It’s uncertain how long Brooke, also known as Little Atomic Bomb, will continue to cause trouble in the Max-Avery-Tristan love triangle. In a week, there’s more shark business before Angela Bassett joins the crew for the upcoming 9-1-1 crossover. Regardless of how you look at it, the situation has significantly altered for the medical team on the Odyssey when they found out about Avery’s pregnancy, as stated by Joshua Jackson.

Regardless of future events, once the bell has been rung, it cannot be unsounded. Consequently, no matter how our story progresses, the fundamental truth is that the nature of this triangular relationship will never return to its original state.

In an unexpected turn of events, I hadn’t anticipated another woman, specifically Adrianne Palicki, entering the scene so swiftly as a potential love rival for Avery. The plot thickens with more drama promised next week. Will the sharks be the only ones causing trouble? Don’t miss it on ABC at 9 p.m. ET, Thursday, March 13.
