At this year’s fourth annual charity event, scheduled for October 24th at Ted Sarandos and Nicole Avant’s residence in L.A., the pair will receive recognition. For many years, the Levys have been ardent supporters of this organization, which aims to combat homelessness among youth leaving the foster care system by providing them with their first homes and fostering a supportive community. It is believed that their backing has significantly advanced the mission of A Sense of Home.
In a shared announcement, the Levys expressed gratitude for being recognized for their backing, yet they found it even more prestigious to assist in furthering the mission of A Sense of Home, a mission that significantly impacts lives under the leadership of its founder and CEO, Georgie Smith.
Over the past ten years, our family has found tremendous joy and fulfillment through our work with A Sense of Home. Unlike many philanthropic organizations, our involvement with ASOH offers a deeply personal and emotional bond with those they assist. The homes we’ve helped create with ASOH are cherished experiences that our daughters and we will remember forever. Witnessing the transformative power and influence of ASOH in the lives it touches, and the futures it helps mold, has been incredibly inspiring for us. The homes provided by ASOH frequently represent a turning point for former foster youth, offering them hope instead of life on the streets. It’s our privilege to contribute to this trailblazing organization in any way we can.
The gala – a gathering bringing Shawn Levy and his Netflix superiors closer following their collaboration on the Stranger Things series and All the Light We Cannot See through Netflix – will also showcase a performance by former American Idol contestant Phillip Phillips, along with an unannounced musical guest set to be revealed in the near future. Additional features include specially selected cuisine and drinks, as well as a silent auction. The event is backed by sponsors such as Ruggable, Living Spaces, OSEA, and Pomello. The first two companies, identified as key partners of A Sense of Home, will be responsible for decorating the venue for the evening.
The event’s co-chairs are Jena King and Michael Rosenfeld, as well as Charlotte and Gary Gilbert, who were recognized the previous year. They’ve been collaborating closely with ASOH since its inception and are committed to creating welcoming environments for youth transitioning out of foster care. They invite everyone to celebrate Shawn and Serena Levy, our friends and honorees, who have tirelessly worked towards empowering these young adults and aiding them in constructing a brighter and stronger future for themselves.
Regarding future plans, funds generated from the gala will be channeled towards enhancing and sustaining A Sense of Home’s endeavors to expand home construction in L.A., as well as bolster services related to employment, education, and overall wellbeing. In the upcoming year, A Sense of Home aims to broaden its reach into communities in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
A Sense of Home began as an act of unexpected generosity, transforming a vacant apartment into a sanctuary for a young adult who had previously been in foster care. This action sparked a campaign aimed at preventing homelessness and disrupting the vicious cycle of severe inequality and poverty among those affected by the foster system. Now, these young individuals are leaving foster care with a sense of belonging and a community, thanks to our efforts. The profound difference this has made in the lives of one of our most at-risk populations – those transitioning out of foster care – provides a healing experience after years of displacement and associated hardships,” Smith explained in a statement.
