Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment, Netflix to Adapt Freida McFadden Best-Seller ‘Never Lie’ (Exclusive)

As a devoted reader and fan of psychological thrillers, I can’t help but feel my heart racing with excitement at the news that Freida McFadden’s best-selling novel “Never Lie” is being adapted by 21 Laps Entertainment! With their stellar track record in adapting gripping stories like “All the Light We Cannot See” and the upcoming “Never Let Go” starring Halle Berry, I have no doubt that this adaptation will keep me on the edge of my seat.

Shawn Levy, known for directing films like Deadpool and Wolverine, through his production company 21 Laps Entertainment, has partnered with streaming giant Netflix. Together, they plan to transform the hit novel Never Lie, penned by Freida McFadden, into a movie adaptation.

Netflix has obtained the rights to create a psychological thriller, which will be developed and produced by 21 Laps. Jason Levy will oversee production, joined by partners Dan Cohen and Dan Levine. This project will come under 21 Laps’ first-look deal with Netflix’s streaming service.

Titled similarly to Gone Girl’s tone, Never Lie centers around a newlywed couple in search of their dream home. They stumble upon an isolated manor that was once owned by a famous psychiatrist, who mysteriously disappeared four years prior. Caught in a heavy snowstorm, the wife uncovers a hidden room filled with audio tapes from the psychiatrist’s therapy sessions with her patients. She finds one tape particularly chilling as it appears to feature a sociopath whose voice eerily resembles someone she knows.

Dr. McFadden, once a practicing physician, has now established herself as a successful author, ranking among the top sellers in publishing over the past decade. At present, she boasts six books on Amazon’s weekly top 20 chart of best-selling titles, which includes her book Never Lie. This particular work spent 11 weeks on The New York Times best-seller list and stayed in the Top 150 of USA Today‘s best-selling books for 11 weeks as well. Remarkably, it also held a spot on Publisher Weekly‘s bestseller list for 23 consecutive weeks.

Brittney Haas will oversee the adaptation for 21 Laps.

Originally, Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “All the Light We Cannot See” was adapted for Netflix, a task taken by Levy. Coming soon on September 27 is Halle Berry’s thriller “Never Let Go”, distributed by Lionsgate, followed by Netflix’s murder drama series “The Perfect Couple”. Additionally, production is underway for the fifth season of “Stranger Things” on Netflix.

Following the groundbreaking debut of Deadpool & Wolverine, which raked in more than $211 million during its opening weekend, Levy is now basking in the success. This figure broke numerous records, including becoming the highest-grossing R-rated opening of all time and the highest July domestic opening. It was also a significant milestone for stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Levy. The film’s earnings continued to grow on Monday, amassing over $24 million, thereby setting a new record as the best R-rated Monday ever for a movie at the domestic box office.
