As a cinephile with over three decades of immersion in the world of films, I’ve seen countless shifts and transformations within Hollywood’s landscape. However, none have been as intriguing and contentious as the recent political divide that has swept through Tinseltown.
Zachary Levi is urging those in Hollywood who privately support Donald Trump for president to come forward, stating they are apprehensive about the potential repercussions of openly endorsing him. In a lengthy Instagram live video following his recent appearance on The View, Levi discussed various topics related to today’s political climate, including this year’s election, his stance on Donald Trump, and the COVID-19 vaccines.
As a movie enthusiast on The View, I remarked that aligning with Trump could potentially jeopardize one’s career in the liberal-leaning Hollywood community. However, Host Whoopi Goldberg took exception to my remarks, asserting that historically, the industry has been more conservative than often perceived. She elaborated that, similar to America, Hollywood is a diverse landscape, and it’s a misconception that being Republican automatically leads to career downfall. To illustrate her point, she cited Dennis Quaid and Jon Voight as proof of Republicans thriving in the industry. In his subsequent video response, I acknowledged her perspective and emphasized the diversity within Hollywood.
Dear Whoopi Goldberg and the team at ‘The View’, I’d like to offer a different perspective on Hollywood being considered as both liberal and conservative. While it may have been more balanced in the past, today, it takes a significant career standing to openly express conservative views in the industry without facing potential backlash.
Observing Goldberg’s examples were limited to Voight and Quaid, he commented: “‘It says a lot that from all the actors in Hollywood, you can only think of two.’
I’ve noticed a pattern where many individuals from the industry, fearful of backlash, remain silent about their support for Donald Trump or conservative views in general. They are hesitant to openly express these opinions due to potential consequences, as Levi pointed out.
However, friends, our sector is heading towards a dramatic transformation. It’s already in a state of flux. The impact of the pandemic and strikes has significantly eroded it. My plea to everyone reading this, regardless of your political leanings, is to take action now if the situation allows. If expressing your views publicly gives you comfort or if you still feel unable to do so, that’s perfectly okay. I would never encourage anyone to reveal their beliefs against their will. However, remember that if your hesitation stems from concerns about an industry that may not survive much longer, then please don’t let that stop you.
Zachary Levi’s Sparks Outrage with Covid-19 Vaccine Comments
Though Levi conceded that there were aspects of Trump’s presidency he disliked, marking his first vote for the controversial ex-president, the “Shazam!” actor expressed his conviction that Trump is the one who could guide the U.S. towards recovery.
On the 28th of September, Levi participated in a discussion at a Team Trump’s America First Tour event, where he facilitated a talk between Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and ex-Representative Tulsi Gabbard. Before aligning with Trump, Levi had previously supported Kennedy, who ended his campaign in August and later backed Trump. In an ideal scenario, Levi mentioned that he might have cast his vote for Bobby (Kennedy) in the past.
Additionally, Levi voiced his skepticism towards the government and mainstream media networks such as CNN, MSNBC, and FOX News prior to delving into the topic of Covid-19 vaccines. The performer linked the demise of his former stage partner Gavin Creel to the vaccine, a statement that has stirred controversy among fans and the theater community.
A couple of weeks ago, my friend Gavin Creel passed away at the age of 48. He was remarkably healthy, and I deeply regret to say that this news has upset many people, including myself.
He added:
As a film connoisseur, I unequivocally assert that if not for the unfortunate introduction of those substances into his system, Gavin Creel would undoubtedly be alive at this very moment.
Creel and Levi played together in a Broadway reprise of the musical “She Loves Me“. Unfortunately, Creel passed away due to a rare and aggressive type of cancer in September.
