Regardless of your opinion on Shia LaBeouf, there’s no denying his dedication and willingness to speak his mind. His career has been marked by a series of scandals and accusations, making his return in 2023 with the film “Padre Pio” less of a comeback than one might expect. Despite this, he delivers an exceptional performance, and director Abel Ferrara is known for creating intriguing films. Unfortunately, “Padre Pio” may have been too obscure to reignite LaBeouf’s stardom. It seems his next film, “Salvable“, won’t change this either. You can watch the trailer for the movie, featuring Toby Kebbell, below:

The synopsis for Salvable reads as follows:
In a gripping, action-filled movie, Shia LaBeouf and Toby Kebbell portray characters. These characters are a boxer nearing the end of his career who faces struggles not only in the ring but also in his personal life. As he teeters on the brink of defeat, he reconnects with a dangerous group and must make the most daring move of his life to regain his aspirations and family.
I had the incredible opportunity to lend my expertise as a former world champion boxer on the set of “Salvable,” where I worked closely with Toby Kebbell and Shia LaBeouf in preparation for their roles. The film is masterfully directed by Bjorn Franklin and Johnny Marchetta, and I’m proud to be part of this talented cast that includes Kila Lord Cassidy, James Cosmo, Elaine Cassidy, Aiysha Hart, Nell Hudson, Michael Socha, and Barry Ward.
What’s with All the Boxing Movies?
Salvable is a fresh addition to a series of films and shows centered around boxing, typically revolving around an underdog and their personal struggles. Lately, we saw the movie Unstoppable, featuring Ving Rhames as a seasoned mentor to a young boxer (portrayed by German actress Luiii). Not long ago, there was also the series A Thousand Blows by Steven Knight of Peaky Blinders fame, set within the clandestine boxing world in 19th-century London. Prior to that came the critically acclaimed Amazon Prime series The Fire Inside, where Brian Tyree Henry plays a mentor to a young girl (portrayed by Ryan Destiny).
Prior to these, there was the exceptional “Day of the Fight,” starring Jack Huston alongside Michael C. Pitt. Additionally, there was the unconventional and artistic boxing dramedy titled “The Featherweight.” This mockumentary chronicles a boxer from 1964. In 2024, “The Cut” was released, featuring Orlando Bloom in an outstanding performance as a boxer aiming to retire with the championship title. The year before that saw a George Foreman boxing biopic (“Big George Foreman”). Sydney Sweeney is garnering attention for her upcoming role portraying the boxer Christy Martin.
It seems there’s a growing trend in the movie industry, with several boxing-related films garnering critical acclaim and even Oscar recognition – think “Rocky”, “The Champ”, “The Fighter”, and more. Could it be the hype around Jake Paul’s fight with Mike Tyson? The success of the “Creed” franchise? Or perhaps boxing’s inherent appeal as a unique sports genre? As for “Salvable”, set to release on May 2, 2025, from Lionsgate, only time will tell if it joins this esteemed list.
