Shinichiro Watanabe's New Sci-Fi Anime ‘Lazarus’ Receives New Key Visual

As someone who’s been through countless anime series and spent countless nights poring over manga volumes, the latest revelations about “Lazarus” have sent my heart racing! The combination of Shinichiro Watanabe at the helm and MAPPA as the animation studio is a match made in anime heaven. The visuals are intriguing, to say the least, with that mysterious packaging and those pearl-like substances causing such chaos. I can’t help but wonder what secrets they hold!

The latest official image for “Lazarus” has been revealed through the project’s main social media account. First announced in summer 2023, “Lazarus” is an upcoming science fiction anime series by renowned director Shinichiro Watanabe, best known for his work on “Cowboy Bebop”.

Against a vivid purple backdrop, the latest visual showcases a bold tricolor scheme. At the heart of this scene is an enigmatic packaging, from which its contents have spread messily across the ground. The contents are portrayed as white and spherical, with several hands scurrying around the questionable package. The accompanying text says “The powerful image of the painkiller ‘Hapuna’, a wonder drug spreading worldwide without side effects yet causing death within three years of use, has been unveiled 💊”, suggesting the pearlescent nature of the contents in the picture.

Furthermore, the recent announcement sheds light on the music choices for this anime – specifically, the opening and closing theme songs. It’s been confirmed that “Vortex,” a fresh track from American Jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington, will serve as the anime’s opening theme. Conversely, “Lazarus” by the English alternative rock band The Boo Radleys has been chosen for the closing credits, offering a distinctly different atmosphere.

MAPPA, the production studio behind Jujutsu Kaisen, has announced a new anime series titled Lazarus, consisting of 13 episodes. Expected to premiere in 2025.
