In a recent interview, Nivola shared his take on the controversial storyline, as well as discussing Lochlan’s heart-wrenching finale scene.

Fans were taken aback by The Ratliff brothers sharing a kiss, and the shock only grew when their threesome was unveiled. However, what about the actors’ feelings? Nivola shared his thoughts with Deadline, discussing how he brought that viral scene to reality:

He’s someone who prioritizes making others happy. His brother, on the other hand, is known for his interest in sexual activities, which he considers one of his life passions along with wealth accumulation and fitness. The motivation behind Lochlan’s pursuit of sexual encounters seems to be a desire to follow his brother’s lead, seeking approval and admiration from him. Unfortunately, this expression of affection becomes an unhealthy and extreme attempt to gain his brother’s approval and make him proud.

Instead of having strong sexual attractions towards his brother, Nivola asserts that Saxon primarily sought his brother’s acceptance during their encounter with Chloe on the yacht, rather than expressing romantic feelings.

The narrative centered on the Ratliffs and the suggestion of incest became apparent to viewers during Season 3, as the brothers were seen sharing a room and Jason Isaacs appeared nude in a scene. However, the actor, Charles Dance, refutes this notion, stating that Lachlan does not have sexual feelings towards his older brother, as expressed by Dance: “Lachlan is not attracted to his brother in that way.

From my perspective, I don’t believe he has romantic feelings towards his brother. To be honest, I never contemplated his sexual orientation, whether he is gay, straight, or anything else. In my view, it’s irrelevant to his character or the role I am playing as an actor. I feel that his story isn’t centered around sex, love, or sexuality. Instead, it delves into human relationships and interactions, regardless of gender or any other categorization.

Regarding the highly popular narrative in The White Lotus’s third season, its final episode dared to take an adventurous approach with character Lochlan. Specifically, by coming close to taking the life of the youngest member of the Ratliff family.

Lochlan’s Near-Death Experience Could Have Beeen More Scary.

Following an attempt by Timothy Isaac that almost took the lives of the entire family (with Lochlan being the only survivor), it was the toxic seeds from the tree symbolizing suicide that came close to claiming the life of the youngest child. He prepared a drink using the leftover seeds, and the series portrayed his brush with death by submerging him underwater, mirroring the fates of Tanya, Chelsea, and Rick in similar scenes. In a subsequent interview, Nivola revealed possible details about how this dramatic sequence might have transpired.

We captured everything while submerged completely underwater. It was both terrifying and awe-inspiring. I found myself about 10 feet below the water’s surface, surrounded by scuba divers who offered me their oxygen tanks. Since I wasn’t wearing goggles, I couldn’t see much. We spent the entire day filming, and we even tried out a couple of takes where I was inside a body bag, crawling out of it in a dream-like state. That part was particularly frightening because I had to be sealed in a body bag with no air, then struggle to escape. However, everything was completely safe. They wouldn’t have placed me in an unsafe situation, but the fear was exhilarating.

Oh dear. Watching Lachlan come so close to death was a highly emotional ordeal for the viewers. It would have been even more distressing if his fate had been sealed, with him lying in a body bag. Moreover, it seems that filming such scenes was equally frightening.

In the end, the body bag wasn’t included in the final version of the scene, suggesting it wasn’t necessary. The emotional impact of Timothy discovering his son was enough without the additional tragedy of his death. Regrettably, the characters of Chelsea and Rick didn’t survive.
