As a dedicated follower of the Indian film industry, I must admit that the decision made by Director Shoojit Sircar to step back from his Kishore Kumar biopic has left me a bit melancholic. Having spent over four years researching and developing a script based on the iconic singer’s life, it’s heartening to see such dedication and passion.
Director Shoojit Sircar, recognized for his captivating narratives, has unveiled a forthcoming movie titled I Want to Talk, starring Abhishek Bachchan. In a recent conversation, he expressed his desire to produce a film centered around legendary Indian singer Kishore Kumar. Sircar disclosed that he had drafted a concept and was thrilled about the venture. Yet, upon discovering Anurag Basu’s biopic on Kishore Kumar, he decided to reconsider and expressed ‘there was no point in repeating the same story’.
During an interview with Scroll, Sircar disclosed that he had invested more than four years into studying a movie centered around Kishore Kumar. However, after hearing that Anurag Basu was also developing a film of the same nature and receiving broad coverage, he chose to abandon the project.
He explained that he had been developing a script based on Kishore Kumar’s life and had conducted nearly three to four years of research with the singer’s family.
Meanwhile, it was also mentioned that there were multiple other scripts being worked on simultaneously, with Basu’s being one of them.
The well-known director mentioned that returning to an old project is tough for him after deciding to leave it behind. “I had sketched out a plan, but when I discovered about Anurag, I felt there was no need for both of us working on the same thing. Therefore, the project was put on hold. It’s quite difficult to regain the momentum once lost and resume work on it,” he explained further.
As a die-hard admirer of the legendary Kishore Kumar, I can hardly contain my excitement as I’ve just learned some thrilling news! TopMob recently disclosed that the exceptional Aamir Khan and the talented Anurag Basu are in negotiations for a biopic on our beloved Kishore Kumar. This project is none other than the brainchild of Bhushan Kumar, a fact that makes it even more momentous. It’s been reported that this endeavor holds a special significance to both Basu and Kumar, as they are determined to bring this captivating tale to life on the silver screen in an unparalleled way. I can hardly wait for this masterpiece to grace our screens!
Khan, an ardent fan of Kishore Kumar, is thrilled by Basu’s concept for depicting the life story of this legendary singer. It’s the innovative perspective that Basu brings to the table that has caught Aamir’s attention.
It’s said they’ve met around four to five times, and their talks have been going well, which is making everyone hopeful about the project. The insider suggests that Aamir might choose from among six potential movies, each at a distinct phase in production.
For now, you can catch him in the show “Sitaare Zameen Par,” where he will be joining forces with Genelia D’Souza and Darsheel Safary.
