In Dawntreader, you might find that Avowed isn’t hesitant about posing challenging questions, not just in the main storyline but also in side quests. For instance, this time it’s about deciding if a godlike being should be allowed to exploit the souls of innocents for the purpose of reviving their potentially wicked deity, Eothas. Being an Envoy, this is just another day filled with complex decisions. However, the consequences of choosing Sargamis are deeply connected to the main narrative, making things even more challenging – it can even influence your final outcome.
In an unfortunate turn of events, one of the top-tier Avowed weapons is now available – a flaming sword. If you’ve been gathering fragments of the Totem of Rightful Rulership throughout Dawnshore, then you’re making solid progress towards an impressive build that will serve you well as you venture into the challenging and hostile territories ahead.
Should you give Sargamis the relic in Dawntreader?
In Dawntreader, it’s advisable to eliminate Sargamis first and then present the statue to the Voice afterwards. Regardless of whether you hand over the relic to Sargamis or decide to attack him, the conclusion of the Dawntreader quest is nearly identical as the oracle ultimately sacrifices himself in the end. However, whether you decide to kill the oracle or later give the Voice the statue will influence your ending to some extent.
Regardless of how Sargamis ultimately meets his end, you will be able to plunder the Last Light of Day sword from his remains. This is a single-handed blade that inflicts bonus fire damage with each strike and restores your health after every kill. As you might guess, it’s an exceptional weapon, particularly at the outset of the game.
As someone who delves deep into the world of this game, I’ve discovered an intriguing twist: based on your character’s backstory or Intellect level, there’s a hidden ending where you can bestow Sargamis with the relic and persuade him to halt his experiment. This choice won’t prevent you from acquiring the Last Light of Day, but it ensures that Sargamis survives. This survival adds an extra segment in the final animation, revealing his future actions, which, surprisingly, are not malevolent. If you can sway him, I strongly suggest you give it a try!
Here’s an overview of each of the Sargamis choices and their outcomes:
Give Sargamis the relic
By conversing with Sargamis sufficiently, you’ll eventually come across an opportunity to hand him the Splinter of Eothas. Subsequently, you must insert this artifact into the colossal statue and trigger it using the nearby lever. Regrettably, Sargamis’ plan meets its demise, forcing him to make the ultimate sacrifice as the last soul for his machine.
Kill Sargamis
Considering Sargamis has resorted to sacrificing innocents and seeks to invoke (and purify) the contentious figure of Eothas, eliminating him seems like the most straightforward solution. This decision can be exercised at various stages during your dialogue with him, each leading to a combat scenario.
By slaying him, you’ll be able to acquire the Last Light of Day from his remains. Eliminating this arrogant and self-centered animancer not only removes a threat but also rewards you with valuable loot. In my opinion, that’s a victory well worth pursuing.
Ignore Sargamis
You don’t have to talk to Sargamis about the expedition team’s fate if you prefer not to. Instead, you can head back to Ofryc and finish your quest. However, this path might seem unsatisfying and dull, and you won’t receive the Last Light of Day as a reward—which could be disappointing.
Sacrifice yourself
Once back in Sargamis and completing the experiment using the relic, there comes an opportunity for you to volunteer for a self-sacrifice, thus concluding the rite. However, this is more of a whimsical proposition rather than a genuine resolution to the quest, as it merely results in your demise and a restoration of your last save.
Should you give the Voice the statue in Dawntreader?
After handling Sargamis’ matter, the Voice proposes that you connect with it through the nearby adra pillar. The Voice implies they might want the statue for some unspecified reason in the future. You can either present the Voice with the statue or choose to destroy it, as you find it potentially harmful and best left untouched.
This choice slightly impacts your ending, so spoilers ahead.
Give the Voice the statue
Should you hand the statue to the Voice, you’ll complete Sargamis’ experiment by positioning the Splinter. Strangely, there are no immediate repercussions when you bestow a giant automaton upon the disembodied voice, but this factor is significant in the final animation. In this scenario, Sapadal will wander the Living Lands utilizing the statue, which might sound ominous, but it turns out to be quite endearing!
Destroy the statue
If you damage or remove the statue, Sapadal won’t have a physical form in the final sequence, which means that part of the storyline is missing. Essentially, by doing so, you’ve prevented your deity from having a tangible presence.
