As a devoted enthusiast of the captivating saga, Avowed, I found myself standing at a pivotal crossroads during my gameplay – a choice that echoed throughout the narrative’s climax. Namely, in the final act of the Ancient Soil questline, I was tasked with deciding the fate of Fior’s people: whether to guide them towards Thirdborn or Paradis. The decision seemed ambiguous at first glance, and its repercussions would only unveil themselves as the story unfolded further.
Similar to other decisions in the game ‘Avowed’, what appears to be a simple choice could lead to outcomes that players didn’t anticipate or have the foresight to predict. This can sometimes be annoying because players may desire specific events to occur among the characters based on their personal experiences with them or the character they are trying to embody. Some choices might seem insignificant, but in reality, the answer is more intricate than it appears at first glance.
What Happens If You Send People Of Fior To Thirdborn
The Option That Seems Better At First Glance
It might appear that Thirdborn would be the logical assumption, given that players’ previous encounters may lead them to think that the Animancers of Fior would struggle in Paradis. However, players have yet to explore Dreamscourge, which is where they will eventually travel during their quest to free people from infection. Initially, it seems as if the inhabitants are content and thriving in Thirdborn, but upon closer inspection, things may not be as peaceful or rebuilt as they initially appear.
In the future, this situation won’t persist indefinitely. When faced with another decision later in the Shadows of the Past main quest, the choices made can have severe repercussions for the people of Fior. Players will once again find themselves at a critical juncture. Both options result in casualties in the region, but one outcome is more immediate. However, if you opt for Ryngrim’s choice, it will lead to a quicker demise. If you return to Thirdborn after this decision, Quilicci will update you on the unfortunate events that have transpired thereafter.
Should you opt for another path, there won’t be any immediate repercussions, but as days turn into weeks, then months, I fear that pain and loss will become a grim reality for many. It may not be as blatant, but the choice of Shadows of the Past seems to have less weight, given that hardship will inevitably unfold regardless of our decision.
What Happens If You Send Them To Paradis
The Option Presented By The Governor
After having visited Paradis, players are aware that the inhabitants exhibit a strong wariness and resistance towards Animancy. This aversion is largely fueled by the fanatical nature of the Steel Garrote, who infamously destroyed Fior in the past. Given this history, it seems inappropriate to send the people of Fior to Paradis when presented with an alternative. Additionally, players understand that Paradis is grappling with overpopulation, making them more inclined to relocate its inhabitants elsewhere.
Sending them to “Paradise” may shield them from the outcomes of events in “Thirdborn”. Visitors will find the inhabitants appearing content in “Paradise”, and Quilicci will express gratitude for safeguarding his people. However, be aware that there are further consequences towards the game’s end when players believe the danger has passed.
Towards the conclusion of “Avowed“, you’ll face a decision: whether to establish the Living Lands as an independent entity or not. If you opt for independence, the culminating mission will unveil that certain inhabitants of Fior have gone into seclusion or vanished entirely. These individuals won’t be able to perform animancy, but they’ll be admired for their agricultural skills.
Why You Should Send The People Of Fior To Paradis
Sometimes Not Dying Is The Better Choice
In the game Thirdborn, the decision you make could lead to fatal outcomes regardless, but choosing Ryngrim’s option might buy some additional time to halt the Dreamscourge. Moreover, this choice could significantly impact how Avowed ends, and the people of Thirdborn may lose faith in others forever.
In Paradis, players might find a way to dodge the repercussions by choosing not to declare the Living Lands autonomous. Yet, this might not be the climax they’re aiming for. With some folks going into hiding or disappearing, this outcome could still be the most favorable scenario. They may have to keep their Animancy abilities under wraps, if not secretly practice them, but their bond improves significantly due to their exceptional agricultural talents. Fortunately, they won’t face any harm from events unfolding in Thirdborn.
Making a choice in this situation isn’t straightforward, as neither outcome guarantees satisfaction at the game’s end. Regardless, staying alive might prove more beneficial than being dead, even if they thought they had found peace. Unfortunately, both options carry some downsides, so players will need to weigh their decisions carefully regarding the people of Fior in Avowed, considering what’s best for them long-term.
